Happened in September. Very first ride. Cruising in a group at a solid 22mph. As I transitioned my left hand from the drops to the hoods, rider in front swerved about six inches to the left, hitting my front wheel. My wheel turned 90 degrees and over the bars I went. It was a complete fluke of timing and 100% my fault.
Landing on gravel at that speed was brutal. Shredded my Assos jersey and bibs. The right side of my body looks like someone took a baseball bat to it. Even today it still shows the marks.
With that said, no damage that required repairs. Not even a bent hanger. I could ride home (10-miles away) with my ass hanging out. I was bleeding really bad. Front wheel still true.
But now my brand RDR looks terrible. :(. I am thankful this is the lasting mark of the crashโฆbut damn. My first ride.

Hopefully you heal quickly. Lesson learned about overlapping wheels.
Half-wheeling then, eh?
Donโt forget to do your Kogels.
Itโs a gravel bike, itโs gonna take some abuse. And now you donโt have to worry about further scratches!
Getting the first scratch out to the way is liberating. Now you can just focus on enjoying beating on it.
Your story is also why I enjoy solo riding. Every time I ride fast in a group I feel like I am going to get taken out.
This calls for a Sharpie…or 3 in different colors. ๐
