All 7 days of e-bike riding through Albania in 4k!
good morning everybody it is hard for me to express how wildly uncomfortable I am right now there are some people over there fishing until like 3 A.M last night I kept getting worried they were going to come over and try to steal my stuff and it turns out sleeping on the dirt is actually not all that comfortable I was using my jacket as a pillow like this but it’s not all that helpful actually oh yeah another thing people they keep driving by this road to go like access the river and keeps waking me up long story short I did not pick a very good spot to camp one small constellation is that because we didn’t actually set anything up the only thing we’ve got to do is roll the sleeping bag up setting up camp is gonna be super fast [Music] yeah all of these people they drove in on their cars and they woke me up good morning going a little early morning walk God damn the sun coming over the peaks of the mountains right there we’re in Albania there was a dog around here somewhere last night too he was just sleeping right outside my tent I’m not sure where he went our battery is almost dead and we don’t have a bunch of Wiggle rooms so we’ve got to head into town and charge up it does not seem like there are mosquitoes out right now which makes me happier than I can express foreign the bottom of the tarp is wet I think we’re gonna let this dry off for a second while we wait for that to dry off and come over here and get some breakfast this of course comes in the form of banana and Diet Coke they’re cold I want to take us act to address some of the goofy questions you guys keep asking me starting off with why I don’t get a second battery obviously getting a second battery would double my range would make it much easier to travel through the mountains the thing is where would I get a second battery at you think that they sell them at the local supermarket you think I can pick them up with my bananas whining about getting a second battery isn’t going to make somebody deliver it here to my campsite this is more or less dry now it’s probably good foreign [Applause] check this out I found a little cafe right next to the river let’s go find an outlet oh hey they’ve got outlets right here perfect are you open can I get a menu [Music] um apparently they also serve food here but I can’t read the menu so we have to use Google Translate they don’t have a lot of breakfast food here but they’ve got something called a Albanian creme brulee okay let’s see if they will let me get that so I couldn’t find any like breakfast foods breakfast yeah do you have breakfast just one yeah so I’m not sure what I ordered he just said it’s got eggs and cheese and salad so is this like a messy meal they brought this uh this paper table plate thing it makes me wonder how messy the meal is gonna be though like why oh my God look at this okay so we got some like cheese stuff we got eggs Tomatoes a bunch of bread oh and it’s toasted oh it’s like basically garlic bread these won’t go away go God damn it leave my food alone I also got this just to show you guys this is the iced tea that I like I can actually finish this there is a sugar-free version in America they clearly don’t have it but this stuff is fantastic the battery is not finished charging yet but I feel like we’ve been here long enough I don’t wanna like like I said restaurants aren’t really made for loitering and the same way coffee shops are like the restaurant is probably the upper limits we’re going to head into town go to an ATM machine and then we will start heading to the coast again though we’ll have to find out okay let’s see what their fees are they want to charge six dollars and fifty cents no why are all the ATMs in these countries so scammy okay another bank let’s give them a shot gonna give it a jiggle just to be sure these people want to charge six dollars everything online says this Bank shouldn’t be charging a fee but it does fine this makes me like Albania a lot less I just paid a 10 fee for this I’m trying to find a route to the coast that doesn’t take us on state streets because I don’t want to be going past people that are going 80 miles an hour it seems like I’ve boxed myself in by being around all of these Lakes because everywhere we go from now is uphill I don’t want to do that it looks like there are not any major cities for a long time like 120 miles it’s not great I’m not thrilled but we’re just gonna have to make it work I’m mostly just worried about how much battery capacity we have um somehow we need to get down there to that bridge I think I messed up while we hunt for a way to get down I’m gonna throw away all my trash from last night banana peel okay resuming there’s another cow just chilling there we could not avoid going on the big fast Road that’s one for a while so we’re gonna stop just because we might need something of course no Coke Zero there’s something next door that looks like it might be a restaurant Maybe oh it’s a cafe let’s get a lemon tea and then charge up we didn’t get a completely charge everything up at the restaurant this morning costs a dollar it’s fun Outlet yep we’re good at least now we know we will start the trip with a 100 full battery that’s something and we can wait out the heat potentially okay she’s ready to go we have to cross 40 miles and we have to go up 5 000 feet I’m glad we were able to charge the battery if I had to guess I would say that we’re probably going to need to make another stop and set the solar panel up it has not cooled down it is still burning hot outside Google says it’s 92 degrees right now I’m a little bit worried because basically the entire route there is just fast Interstate roads okay let’s go I’m getting off the super busy one and moving on to like a secondary busy road More Cows just chilling cow cow oh wow they’re pissing everywhere woof glad this guardrail is here it’s both parts cool and terrifying being this high up knowing that like you could fall I put the bike in first gear I put it on low power mode we don’t need to get there fast so I’m going to do a lot of the work with my legs just slowly climbing the mountain the only reason I’m able to do this is because there’s not a lot of traffic if there were fast cars buzzing by me I couldn’t go slow like this this is kind of nice we have 25 miles left so after riding up and down these mountains for the past couple of days I’ve decided that I don’t want to do this again when we’re figuring out how to get to Georgia we’re not going back over these mountains oh 20 miles left and we still have 80 battery using my legs more is definitely helping a lot 40 percent I believe we’ve reached the highest point you guys want to see what 5 000 feet in the air looks like ah that bike did that I’m gonna go ahead and grab a snack here Coke and some croissants it’s hot it’s very warm I like them cold better okay let’s go murder my brakes now I wonder if it ever snows here like during winter what these mountains look like they don’t look like they ever get snow oh my God my first time in all of Europe a driver just waved at me as I passed first time ever I do that a lot because I’m from Iowa you always just like wave at people but they just did it to me [Music] I like Albania we have 20 battery left and 12 miles to go I’m not worried I am super confident we’ll make it I have no idea where the we are but it starts to keep going straight so that’s where we’ll go yeah there’s like a mine or a factory or something here I’m assuming of mine because of the dump trucks more uphill it’s not cows this time it’s goats we are two and a half miles away from the city we’re stopping in sunglasses would be helpful I can’t really wear them though because of my glasses we’re one mile away okay this town right here is called fushi Ares Fouche Ares something and because this town is way out in the middle of nowhere they don’t get a lot of tourists so the hotels are really cheap I got a room for 14 a night Hotel International given that we are smack dab in the middle of the mountains I don’t know how good the internet connection here is going to be and look at that Mike made it I’m sure um [Music] perfect okay 14 a night we have a bed oh let’s check out the bathroom shower why do we have two toilets I have two beds let’s check their Wi-Fi speeds that’s terrible oh my God that’s so bad okay the internet is much better outside of my room so this is where I’m gonna be doing all my uploads they don’t have an elevator so we’ve got to carry all of my stuff up like four floors let me reiterate 14 a night it’s Times Like These that I wish my wasn’t so heavy now I just need to find out where I want to lock my bike this tree will do after many many flights of stairs whenever my legs get tired I’m just going to remind myself fourteen dollars fourteen dollars I think this place has a restaurant inside of it but I’m not sure if that’s where I want to go this is a strange little mountain town I actually have no idea what their export is that they can afford to have roads paved in basically marble another store that does not have Coke Zero can I get a menu for one percent one person yes let’s see what this place has um can I get the grilled pork yes with rice and pasta he asked me where I’m from I’m just like oh you know America he just looks at me weird like America yes I promise I’m from America this hurts me to have to drink okay it doesn’t hurt that bad it tastes very sweet thank you so much okay so this was grilled pork I think this was somewhere in the neighborhood of seven dollars it comes with this the rice and the pasta is still coming it tastes just like steak oh look at that we got the rice it’s a little overcooked it’s fine ah here we go and this is the pasta you know in my head it wasn’t three full course meals it was like the meat and then a side of cider pasta and a side of rice but whatever we’ll deal with it that’s really good okay I’m good let’s go pay so somehow I spent 23 on dinner cool thank you so much I’m pretty sure it should not have been 23 I looked at the menu the meat was seven dollars the rice was two dollars the pasta was three dollars the coke maybe been two dollars there’s no way that adds up to 23. but the kid was just like oh well I’m pretty sure it’s 23 and I didn’t want to argue with him I’m not gonna like make a scene in front of a restaurant so twenty three dollars we’re gonna go see if we can find another supermarket and see if there’s Coke Zero there okay we got another Market just Coke oh hey Coke Zero we got cans we’ll take that oh well look at that four dollars for all of it oh wait I’m gonna get a second pair of clothes so we can take a shower okay now we’re ready 23 on dinner a damn um okay so I gotta put the shower head up here some assembly required I guess God damn it get up there you might bother stay no stay I got it we’re gonna pull this chair out it’s a balcony actually looking through the windows I see a whole bunch of people drinking coffee but nobody eating food okay so apparently they don’t have like a breakfast menu they have One Singular breakfast item and we ordered it they call it the standard laptop is still there I’m just picking up my phone from the charger okay let’s go try this standard breakfast another thing smoking inside is pretty common oh thank you so much so it is basically the same thing we had for breakfast yesterday there’s no Bees but they have honey and they have bread oh that’s not honey that’s not honey that’s not honey at all even though it’s not honey it’s still pretty good definitely a quality meal a little disappointed we didn’t get honey but still good it cost five dollars I wonder how much longer we’re gonna have to wait for that video to upload I want to get out of here before the Sun starts getting mean 82 uploaded two hours left no okay it finished uploading okay I believe the only thing we need to do now is go to the supermarket get some supplies and then hit the road I am getting so fast at setting up and tearing down my bike like when I first started this it took me like a half hour to get everything strapped to my bike securely but now I can probably get the whole thing off and back on in five minutes I’m pretty sure the story we went to last night that has the diet coke is up here somewhere yes it’s right here oh they’ve got a cold one let’s take that oh look they’ve got instant ramen noodles if I had a pot and something like to cook with we might look at getting them but I can’t cook right now oh check it out we can get a bag of chocolate chip cookies for less than two dollars thank you so much six dollars sixty cents before we head out though I think we are gonna try these chocolate chips I want to make sure they’re actually good I don’t want to depend on them and then find out they suck when I’m hungry God look at this look at how much storage space we have now we had nowhere near this much storage space with the last bag okay chocolate chip cookie time okay thank you yeah it’s pretty good okay I think that we’re good to go start heading toward the coast again God damn it my bike is really back heavy so it has a tendency to pop wheelies we are going to head to a town called puke or puke Puck it’s about 12 miles away but once we get there we can stop at a coffee shop and we can wait for the sun to go down a little bit I don’t want to ride during midday Heat oh my God you can smell the pine trees oh it smells so great there was somebody in the comments of my last video and they said that I’m too concerned about my brakes I am properly concerned with my brakes in the mountains here if my brakes fail that is game over out on the coast or out in the farm Fields it’s whatever my brakes fail I can get them fixed if they fail out here I’m done okay I just want to say Albania is probably my favorite country that I’ve ridden in so far the road conditions are basically perfect there’s very little traffic you can go as fast as you want this is and it’s beautiful outside obviously it’s beautiful we’re back to using our feet [Music] we are about half a mile away from pukes Albania see if we can find a coffee shop it’s a pretty small town honestly this looks sort of like a cafe hello um are you guys open do you guys sell coffee 15 miles but we’ll still top it up yes thank you and we got a cappuccino now we’re just gonna wait here for a couple hours till the sun goes down oh it’s pretty good pronounce it okay update it is not pronounced puke it’s pronounced Puka Puka apparently the guy is paying for my coffee for me that’s super sweet yeah he just covered it that’s super sweet he tells me that it’s just a small little village and it’s crazy seeing an American here puka okay here’s what the router’s looking like I have seven days to be able to be in Greece or when we ride down the coast of Albania we will hop on a ferry from this down here into Petrus then we will ride from pedrus into Athens and we’ll go from Athens on another ferry over here to Turkey so two fairies one two with a little bit of writing in Greece it’s super doable we just need to know if it’s doable in seven days okay I’m looking at the map to get to the coast and it’s basically straight downhill so it’s gonna be super easy our battery should last the entire trip there it’s like 50 miles our battery is done charging it’s 1 30 so it’s still pretty hot outside but we can probably head out God figure out all of the ferries that we need to jump through to get through Greece in six days is intense if one Ferry goes out then the whole plan just goes yeah the sun’s still out but it’s not super hot yeah I basically just stopped locking my bike up my bike is so heavy at this point that without the battery in it it’s not really going anywhere it really does have a lot in common with the motorcycle I won’t do that overnight but in a coffee shop like this it’s fine and especially considering this is a small ass Village God damn it stay up let’s go ahead and eat some of these cookies they’re warm one last thing before we head out sunscreen okay honestly I’m not concerned enough with my brakes I should be looking at my brakes every day I lose a couple of minutes but I could potentially save my life tell me again that I’m too concerned about my brakes if I hit this I would like flip over I would go right down that Cliff these are super sharp turns [Music] I just want you guys to see this look at it I’m not trying to scare you cow scared cows are dangerous watch out where who is deleting all of these cows nobody they’re just out here walking by themselves good good that’s healthy if I had to guess I would say that that is where we are going it’s down there we are 25 miles away from the shore [Applause] it’s having us leave the main street again to go off on these little side Adventures okay but seriously look at how good the roads are here I am constantly amazed that I’m not jumping over potholes or writing down dirt paths I spoke too soon didn’t I thing is I can’t tell if this is representative road again it was short-lived we’re back on asphalt you know what no I stand by it we are out in the middle of nowhere and these roads are still really good foreign like this are honestly really fun to ride down they’re not so bad that you have to stop and get off your bike but there’s still some obstacles you’ve got like Dodge stuff I feel like you’re riding a mountain bike through like tracks and courses and stuff like riding on asphalt like this is more pleasant but it’s not as much fun it’s not as interesting you don’t get to do as much stuff okay so I don’t think if the Albania just has really good roads I think all of this stuff is like brand new within the past couple of years like all of these roads look way too good to be aged we are definitely out of the mountains now heads up this place does not paint their speed bumps or they’ll just be a speed bump in the middle of the road you’ll break your suspension sometimes they’re as easy to see as this rope other times it’s just like a slight bulge in the concrete um Okay can somebody explain to me where I am it feels like I’m on like an Airport runway there’s a like a rectangular concrete slab and then there’s these little uh things just it feels like I’m on a Runway okay I see another motorcyclists yeah I have no idea which parts of this or Road and which parts of this are not Road it’s just I’m gonna drive wherever it looks like this guy is doing some farming on the runway looks like that’s the end of our Airport runway Shenanigans oh just like I found a dog you guys know what that means it’s time to give him some vitamins come here pup puppy where’d you go up it’s okay he’s gone well there’s a donkey I’ll just leave this here on the ground for him he might be able to smell it we’re gonna grab a snack while we’re stopped here I’m pretty sure we’re 10 miles away from the coast but that 10 miles is gonna seem longer because we have to go slow on these side roads foreign see this is what I mean the speed bumps have no paint and they’re really hard to see if the Sun is like even mildly in your eyes but this will up your suspension if you hit this going fast so steep okay we made it to town I’m not sure if I want to stop here if I want to go all the way to the shore let’s stop for a second and figure out what we want to do ladies and gentlemen welcome to Les he District there’s a bench up ahead we we’re gonna talk about that got a question for you so right here on the menu cappuccino 130 mm-hmm right there it says 150. she gave me the wrong receipt hmm [Music] okay side note I mastered the girl on Tinder back when I was in Kosovo Kosovo was like a long ways away from here and it turns out we are like basically in the same place she’s maybe 40 miles away from me even after all of this time we both just like traveled in the same direction I’m not gonna lie there’s like an 80 chance that all of the plans we just made are going out the window and we’re heading up into Montenegro now there’s a really good chance we’re going to Montenegro we are definitely not anywhere near fully charged but the sun is going down so we should probably figure out where we’re gonna be sleeping for tonight I’ve actually just been sitting here talking to that girl on Tinder okay update I take everything back that I just said um she was just messaging me and she says that she works for an I.T firm where they deal with crypto and I’m not sure if you guys have ever heard of a pig butchering scam but basically there will be a cute girl she’ll try to get you to talk to them she’ll talk about how she invests in crypto and if you invest with her you can make good money and so let’s try to get you to send her Bitcoin I’m not sure if she’s doing that but it’s got some warning signs so I just got all excited about nothing I am such a okay so I basically just straight up called her a scammer a 40 year old dude in India trying to get Bitcoin from Western guys she’s not she’s real um she’s the assistant I am a I need to find a more tactful way to ask people to verify their identity I guess ugh it’s so late I totally forgot that we need to like do things so she’s definitely not a scammer for whatever that’s worth I have not told this girl how tall I am yet though um I’m not sure how I’m gonna Broach that with her oh you can smell the ocean or the sea whatever they want to call it it’s a little bit dark to set up a camp right now we can do it it’s just it would not be very fun there is a somewhat expensive hotel just up the street we typically stay in really cheap hotels so I’m kind of curious what expensive hotels look like it’s called Hotel lists oh and apparently it comes with breakfast included there are some very steep steps and I don’t know how to get up there without going up the Steep hell okay up the stairs for all the people that ask why I don’t just bring my bike inside like that I can’t get it up I can’t get it up there uh yeah thank you okay perfect okay we were able to find parking they’ve got a parking garage here now let’s go check in I’m not actually even sure if I need to pay for parking even if they try to charge me for parking because I can just get around this thing like they can’t they can’t keep me in okay uh do you speak English okay we are on the first floor this is what the expensive hotels look like okay hey it’s got multiple shower heads and a water heater I’ve got my own personal water here like it feels fancy it’s got lots of the it’s got lots of the charm of like a fancy apartment or a fancy hotel but I’m not sure if it’s worth five times the amount that we paid yesterday I guess we’ll have to see what the breakfast looks like if the breakfast is really good I’ll change my mind good morning everybody we just spent the night at a very expensive hotel and I just have to say expensive hotels are kind of nice the beds were super soft there were no bed bugs we’ve got my own AC Wi-Fi is super fast and now we’re gonna go check out the free complimentary breakfast I guess it’s not free because we definitely did pay for it so it looks like we just sit down can I get omelette with ham um so we got an omelette I think there’s ham in there tomatoes butter and bread oh we have honey now I’m pretty sure that’s honey good meal let’s go on a walk this is a really nice town look at this there’s a laptop repair store that’s using the Internet Explorer logo oh these doors are always cool they’re gimmicky but they’re cool you guys might watch my videos and think that electric scooters are basically the same thing as electric bikes you might want to get one of these yourself but electric scooters are way more dangerous than electric bikes are because the wheels on scooters are so small there’s not a lot of rubber that’s actually contacting the road so if you’re going really fast and you hit the brakes it’s really easy for your wheels to lock up and start skidding on the asphalt and you’ll go slide it if you look on Reddit nine out of 10 of the crashes you see on r slash e-bikes are from people that were on e-scooters not on e-bikes themselves bikes are much safer than scooters oh my God I’m reading the comments for yesterday’s video you guys are pathetic the reason that I complained about the 20 cent difference in the coffee isn’t because I was super greedy and I really wanted that 20 cents it’s because the restaurant that I stayed at before charged me 23 for something that wasn’t 23 like restaurants do that here or they will just up charge you just because you’re American like this is not about 20 cents I don’t care about 20 cents I care about the restaurants here being honest Jesus Christ good morning I’m checking out anybody want to make any bets if my unlocked bike is still in the parking lot hey it’s still here we are headed to the beach I’m going to preemptively apply sunscreen you know black people definitely have an advantage to the beach to the beach beach look at all of this traffic we get to avoid because bike would be like some small fishing Village but now it looks like it’s a tourist hot spot I mean I guess it is a Beach town so you would expect some kind of tourism industry yeah this is not exactly what I was looking forward to you know we’ve never done yet we have never tried riding on Sand and I’ve got the big tires so I think it should be able to do it honestly not a problem at all I’m looking at the prices hotels because I’m just curious how much one of these Beachside Resorts cost 43.59.62.60 dollars but surprisingly cheap for like a Beachside Resort I see a lot of beds I’m not sure if we’re supposed to pay to use them if I can just set them up I’m gonna set one up and see if anybody complains like this feels like something you would typically need to pay for do I need to pay for this yes okay yeah see that’s what I was assuming I was assuming that’s the kind of thing you got to pay for they’re gonna charge five euros to set under an umbrella I hate Beachside towns well while we’re here let’s take a sec to do some more maintenance on the bike one of the things that I’ve noticed is that my derailleur isn’t quite aligned properly I am in the highest gear right now I’m supposed to be going as fast as I can but if you look at the chain you’ll see that it’s not quite on the highest gear it’s not aligning properly yeah see those are way less safe than an actual bike now I don’t know how to actually adjust my indexing on my derailleur so we’re gonna um YouTube it most common question we get is how do I okay so I think I need to change something called a limit screw I need to unscrew it a little bit I’m pretty sure it’s this top screw right here that I need to loosen that actually worked now I’m going to go through each of these gears and make sure that they actually do uh go to the right gear first here good top it by one did not work I’m going to line up the derailleur with each of the individual gears I’m just checking all of the gears to make sure it works for all of them we got it we can’t add some more grease to the chain while we’re here I feel like I put a lot of stress on the Chain while we were trying to climb those mountains I’m not sure if it’s what to invest in like a brush and just like actually scrape all of the dirt and grime out of this or if it’s moot because I’ll just get more dirt and grime inside of it later like maybe the existing dirt and grime is helping protect it from future dirt and grime so I think we’re gonna try something this little poorest can’t go on forever if we just keep riding along the coast eventually we will get to a part where it’s just like a wild Beach and we can camp there right we can just stay on the sand and just keep going if we’re gonna be riding on the sand I’m going to relieve some of the pressure in the tires just to give them a little bit more surface area to grip onto I think we’ll do 15 psi and just see how it goes I can smell the Slime as the air leaves these tires I’m not sure why this part doesn’t get clogged by the slime like why am I able to let the air out of this without the slime coming out and clogging it damn it I got distracted and let too much air out okay I think we’re good to go I won’t lie deflating these tires makes riding on this uh bumpy road so much nicer I wanted a wild Beach I do see some restaurants across the street I guess we haven’t eaten lunch yet um can you guys by chance sell lemon juice oh Diet Coke yes okay we are getting goulash I asked him how much it was and he says just pay after just pay after oh big bread cool it’s hollow inside and then we’re gonna use our bread in the soup [Music] oh wow it’s very hot but hmm oh God coming here was a treat goulash she calls it oh my God I cannot get over how good this is there’s like chunks of beef in there I think that’s beef okay let’s go find out how much this costs okay it costs about eight dollars that’s reasonable in America but that’s really expensive here and it’s just because we’re in a tourist area with lots of hotels and stuff look at that we’re starting to get into some more wild Beach type territories now that we’re leaving the city look at that I see a tent as far as I’m concerned that means we can camp here I’m not sure exactly where I want to camp though you know what this spot is good enough for me we will Camp right here one downside of camping on the beach like this is that now sand is going to be everywhere for the rest of my life once you put your stuff down on the beach sand is there forever I will say one cool thing about putting up a tent on the beach is the stakes they go right in the ground you don’t need to like tap them with a rock you just push them in with your hand while you’re also on the beach you need to be careful about the sand because the sand is hard enough to scratch all of your devices your screens your lenses everything okay we got the tent set up now I’m gonna go set the solar panels up I’m not sure if the sun’s gonna come back out but if it does I want to collect all of it maybe we’ll get some power from it maybe we won’t but if the sun does come out we’ll be able to capture all of it you know it’d be really great right now a nice camping chair or maybe an inflatable bed I’m gonna spend a stack doing tent cleanup wait a minute I have a tool that will make cleaning much easier and here here we are I was right the sun did come back out and I’m glad we put the solar panel up [Applause] and the last thing we got to do so the scent is set the fan up perfect I think later tonight we’re gonna go try taking a bath in the ocean wait a minute I just realized we don’t want to wait until tonight to take a bath because then it’ll be cold and our stuff won’t dry uh we should go take a bath now I actually do keep soap right here I don’t have a towel so we’re just gonna have to use the sun to dry off oh my God I’m terrified oh hey it’s not that cold oh my God it’s so salty oh again I to London um no I’m going from the top of Europe down the bottom of Greece right now they’re gonna get their tents they’re gonna set up next to us it’s crazy talking to them about like other people that understand this stuff like that the Airbnb that you get every like third day so you can like take a shower go to the restroom they totally understand that it’s fantastic they just invited me to electric motor and a couple big lithium iron phosphate batteries in there and we’re gonna go sail around the world on nothing but solar power I’ll even get a little fishing rod and we’ll go fishing and we’ll eat all of the stuff that we catch I just need to be able to you know buy a boat but boats and Equipment are expensive so we’ll have to wait for that unless there are any boat companies that other wheel it seriously does take like a half hour to pump these tires up to the right pressure I feel like the chain is probably dry though so we can apply the oil to it it’s technically not oil it’s a dry lubricant like it comes on wet but it dries solid I think it’s like graphite regardless and by the way I didn’t say the black people don’t get sunburned or that they don’t get skin cancer they still need to wear a sunscreen they just get less sunburned and less skin cancer than I do that is an advantage over me in regards to this that’s an advantage I’m not saying they don’t get that it might have been a little bit more pointed um we’re not going to sit around and wait for her to possibly message me back so we’re just gonna hit the road uh the first part of this trip is 50 miles and we should be in Albania by the end of the day it is 11 o’clock though so you guys know what that means oh yeah I was able to cut my hair while we were in that apartment so that’s cool okay so yeah we need to ride for about 50 miles a day and we’ll get there by the start of October possibly foreign place that we stopped yesterday mostly because I know that it works we still have like 80 eight-month-old woman who has been sitting there binging all of my content for the past while she’s eight months pregnant and her name is Nikki um hi apparently this place’s restroom is out here in the back it’s not as bad as I was expecting honestly he told me the bathroom was out back and I was expecting a hole in the ground it looks like we are running out of daylight so if we want to be able to hit the road and find a place to camp we should probably leave now even though the battery is not fully charged yeah it’s almost six o’clock I want to cross the border before it gets dark one of the reasons I want to get to Albania before the sun goes down is because camping is legal in Albania I don’t know if it is in the monument foreign I just want to make sure that I’m seen let’s have a head see if we were a motorcycle we would have to wait in line with all these other cars but because we’re technically a bicycle we can go through the walking path way yes I typically do this thing where I shout hey welcome to Albania but we’ve already been here so I feel like I’ve already done that yeah look at all of these cars that we get to avoid because we’re a bike it’s for campgrounds around here I kind of want to go see what campgrounds look like okay apparently the campsite is down here it’s called camping Australia and if they want to charge more than five dollars for the night we’re just gonna leave like I’m not paying more than five dollars for a piece of land wild camping is legal in Albania so if they want to charge us too much we’ll just go like next door and camp okay I can smell the fires somebody has a fire lip I have not paid to sleep in a campsite in years actually there’s a whole bunch of sheep where is reception I’m sure we have to pay somebody somewhere it looks like there’s a house up there I bet that’s where we pay it’s completely free it is completely free where would we like to go camping it’s completely free how do they fund this then because somebody mowed the lawn here somebody’s like taking care of it wild this looks like a good enough spot to me it’s completely free holy okay so it’s getting dark our first priority is getting the tent set up I’m not sure how much daylight we have left probably 30-ish minutes get out of here sleeping bag and then tent your turn oh interesting so because of the pressure these guys probably need to take them off before the tent good to know tent come here yeah like if they’re not charging people for this who’s mowing the lawn who’s building all the infrastructure I’m glad we got here when we did because it is getting dangerously close to being uncomfortable to set up camp the darker it gets the less fun it is foreign and of course everything takes three times as long because they’ve got to film it while I do it I can’t just set a tent up I’ve got to film myself setting a tent up actually let me move the bike out of the road just in case anybody else wants to drive out of here or drive in late I don’t have a rock to pound these things in so I’m using my feet I don’t think it’s going to rain tonight we have a seven percent chance of rain I think that we’re good let’s go put this guy here and that might be how they pay for all of the stuff it’s just overpriced food then again I could go for some overpriced food yeah it looks like dinner is still going for another two hours oh look at a menu we can get bread for 50 cents that looks good okay so this makes sense if you’re camping with a tent it’s free the Wi-Fi is free but if you’re bringing like a car that’s when you have to pay money okay that makes sense so the car people are subsidizing this I’m feeling we will do pork chops with bread hello hello can I get um one of these and one of these yes fantastic thank you I’m that are under the misguided impression that I’m like a nice person I promise I’m super not I absolutely could have stayed here if I would have been more nice to the guy and been like oh no it’s fine I totally get why you lied haha funny joke I wasn’t like that now we’re leaving I’m not going to set everything up properly because I know that we’re just gonna be driving like a half mile to get to another spot to camp so I just need to get everything on the bike I just realized I was actually right I will not pay for a campsite that costs more than five euros cool I I have some Integrity with myself at least ah okay take it back putting it get back on I need you gotta turn the whole bike on I guess yeah yeah putting the tent away wasn’t that bad I’m sure putting it back up again won’t be bad either I can already imagine the comments I’m gonna get in this video Americans are so entitled why didn’t you just pay the money it’s only seven euros so I’m pretty sure that I am actually going it oddly suspicious that this place would be free but I would not have thought it was free if the owner didn’t tell me Point Blank explicitly it’s free now you guys get to see why riding at night absolutely sucks are there potholes in the road who knows oh the car is going to see me while we’re driving who knows okay this road is actually in pretty good condition so it’s not that bad but once you get on worse gravel roads or like fast-moving interstates it’s terrifying we’re doing wild camping from now on guys sound good to you see like there’s a sign right here right there showing everybody where this campsite is imagine if that sign were to go missing how hard it would be for him to attract new business the in me is tempting me to go take that sign down I’m not going to but I really want to I did find a hotel that’s open for 34 a night I think that’s a good deal we definitely can’t do an apartment or something like that it needs to be a hotel because it’s late and we need yes yes I have a booking perfect so we ended up paying five times more than we would have and actually like infinitely more than we would if it was free um I’m not sure if I should put my bike let’s talk about that for a second about half of the comments are you that I was in the wrong that if I would have been more sociable if I would have said hi then I would have understood the owner was obviously joking because why would he give away a camping spot for free that is a perfectly reasonable position to take if this was the first time that happened but this actually isn’t do you remember two days ago when I was at the restaurant and I told them that I didn’t want the water because I didn’t want to pay for it and they Point Blank clearly told me it’s free it’s free don’t worry and then after I consume the water then they charge me for it if this was like a one-off thing then sure I will give the benefit of the doubt to the store owner but this has been happening to me all over the place there’s the store that charged me 23 Euros for spaghetti and rice there’s the store that gave me the wrong receipt trying to up charge me for a cappuccino there was a store that gave me a free water and then charged me afterward there is the store that tried to take two of my Euros if all of these things were isolated incidents I would give them the benefit of the doubt and say it was a mistake maybe it was tipping culture the fact that this is happening so often here suggests that companies in the Balkans are very deceitful no and then everybody’s in the comments saying that the guy that tried to take the two extra Euros because it was a tip everybody’s saying like oh yeah tipping culture that’s the thing you just give them a 10 they’ll take whatever I’ve never I’ve never once had somebody assume that because I gave them a larger bill I was just giving them the rest of the money literally zero times and I promise I have traveled more than you have I promise tipping is just an American thing that it’s something that Americans almost exclusively do if not a thing here the price you see on the menu is the price you pay okay I got that out of my system I’m good I don’t give a anymore I probably won’t bring it up again unless another company tries to scam me still over here resetting up my camping equipment though okay I think that we are set to go oh hi pop so you guys know how I’ve been giving dogs the dog vitamins well that guy has uh stopped paying me so I’m not sure if I should even show his product on my channel anymore he’s like a couple payments behind they don’t seem to have any breakfast foods okay I found waffles that’s breakfasty no oh yes yes thank you super convenient I forgot that I don’t have any Albanian Lakes so if you let me pay in euros and this is gonna blow your mind but I actually did say please and thank you I just wasn’t recording it because I was having a conversation like I’m sure this is going to blow your minds but I do say things when the camera isn’t rolling that that does occur okay Cafe Mio Albanian cappuccino oh it’s very very good very good okay let’s check out the waffles I’m worried they’re gonna be too sweet so this is basically sugar then again that’s kind of what you get when you buy waffles from the supermarket like that oh they’re individually wrapped okay so I don’t need the whole package let’s try one waffle I’ll give you guys a look I think I’m getting another one this is a great breakfast food yeah actually that’s what we’re gonna do we’re gonna go get another one uh they’re really good of course yeah they’re fantastic no no I’m fine I’m fine thank you though thank you plus side of Albania I guess plastic bags are free what a great way to start the day waffles and iced coffee fantastic that cloud right there is the real MVP one thing that I do think is interesting here is how much more variety people have when they use their car horse like in America when somebody honks at you they’re pissed the horn basically is a one-to-one translation of you whereas here they use it to like say hi to their friends they’ll use it to let you know that they’re passing the horn has a lot more uses than it does in America if somebody honks at you it usually doesn’t mean they’re mad at you they’re just like saying hi or letting you know that they’re there I do hate driving on roads like this I honestly don’t understand the reason why cities would pave their roads in rocks like this I feel like this is much harder to repair than asphalt like asphalt you just tear out put new things down but here you’ve got to make sure that all of the stones match the existing stones and you can’t just tear it out like you would asphalt I don’t know why cities do this Cobblestone and I’m almost certain it’s more expensive than just using asphalt because you need to manually make sure all of these things line up Asphalt you can just pour and roll over it asphalt is almost certainly a more economical don’t do that don’t go like up this guy’s business just because I had a poor experience with him like it’s weird that I need to ask this but don’t do that if I have a poor experience with somebody I will handle it with them I might get scammed I might not but you guys going up there being keyboard Warriors trying to like defend me or trying to like take down businesses that you see in my videos it makes me seem like I’m being vindictive I’ve already used like three-fourths of the bottle it’s almost gone so yeah like don’t review bomb him you guys think that you’re defending me or whatever if the road conditions aren’t the best like look at this we got super terrible Road followed by good road and it just keeps changing intermittently like that like every like half mile you get good a little bit or move it this way these constantly squeaking brakes are gonna drive me insane you know what water stops here seems like a good enough time to get food let’s go with a waffle and one of those protein bars oh I forgot I have almonds and pretzels yes please what these pretzels are is they are a pretzel on the outside but on the inside they’re Hollow and they’ve got uh peanuts it tastes like peanut butter it’s like a like a peanut butter pretzel so a lot of the criticism that I’m seeing from yesterday’s video revolves our own cultural differences that uh I’m not being polite Enough by not talking to them not saying hi I just walk it B I’ll just walk into an establishment get my food and drink and then leave and that that’s impolite and here in Albania that is uh improper based on the culture that’s here let’s assume that that’s true I have been to a lot of different countries you guys have seen that I’ve been to Ukraine and Poland and Hungary and turkey and Georgia and Armenia Thailand Costa Rica I’ve been to a lot of different places and I have never had one of those countries any of them at all give me a different price than the price that they tell me in person every single one of them the price that is listed is the price that you pay except America actually America is kind of skivvy like this because uh they’ll tell you that it’s ten dollars and you’ve still got to pay tax and you gotta pay gratuity so most of the countries in the world they are actually more transparent about their prices than America see I’ve even been to other Baltic countries that would probably have similar Customs like Serbia and Kosovo I did not have any problems there either all of the prices were exactly the price they told me we’ve been in Albania for five days and we have had five different instances where they try to scam me out of money we’ve had twice where people tell me something is free and then come back after I’ve consumed it and then try to charge me for it once where somebody gives me the wrong receipt once where somebody sends their kid out to give me the bill without actually giving me a receipt and just telling me that it’s 23 Euros when it’s super shouldn’t be and once where a server tries to take my entire bill without giving me my change so it’s possible maybe this place just had such a wildly different culture from every country on the planet or Albania has a reputation for being deceptive because albanians are deceptive so it is possible I could be experiencing all of these problems because I’m uncultured and Albania is just so much different than America and Albania is different than Serbia and Kosovo and Thailand and Ukraine and turkey and Georgia and Armenia maybe maybe that’s true or maybe there’s a reason that Albania has a reputation for being deceptive like Occam’s razor says that being scammed five times in five days is probably representative of the culture not The Traveler I have not decided if we are going to camp for tonight or if we’re going to spend the night in the local hotel it’s a really small village so I kind of want to support the economy but I also don’t want to pay more than I need to we’ll this morning technically we could go back but it’s a long way to go back yeah we left there at 7 30 and it says that it still sees my phone there at 9 47. [Music] God damn it there was nothing super important on that phone it was a pretty expensive phone it was a pixel six but the thing that that had was an esim so I could go to a country and I could just download a SIM card my current phone doesn’t do that it only has physical Sims so I lost the ability to download SIM cards um yeah it would take four hours to drive there and then four hours to drive back you remember how I said I’m definitely losing money on this trip this is what I mean for what it’s worth I’m relatively confident that I can’t accidentally leave my main phone behind where’d it go I’m relatively confident I can’t leave my main phone behind because it’s Bluetooth connected to my watch my watch would freak out if I left my phone so at least this one is relatively safe but that other phone is my emergency phone if this one breaks because like I drop it and it gets cracked I did have a second phone that I could use now I don’t have an emergency phone if I ride back to the hotel that’ll take about four hours which means it’ll take eight hours round trip I probably won’t be able to complete that tonight which means I would get back here tomorrow after the ferry leaves again so if I go back for the phone I won’t be able to get on the boat I had that phone since Barcelona do you guys remember uh when I got my stuff stolen in Lebanon and one of my friends flew over to Barcelona with like a bag full of Tech equipment that was one of the things he brought for me and I just left it behind in a hotel there’s a mini market right here they have sandwich meat it looks like and cheese yes we got Diet Coke and they’ve got orange juice and iced coffee oh yes bread bread bread they don’t have bread for sale but she went into the back so she might be getting people no I’m not gonna lie I was leaning over the edge scrolling through Tick Tock with my phone and I stopped for a second I realized but wait I’m over water now if I drop my phone rip the engine started it’s basically standing room only now I low-key wish I had one of those little floaty things that you attached to your camera so that if I did drop it I could jump in the water and get it if I drop this GoPro it’s gone God oh God it smells like diesel this is hands down the coolest part of the trip so far [Music] oh my God [Music] oh my God we need to buy a boat I told you this channel does outside okay then let’s get the lap or the backpack strap back to the bike I’m not gonna lie the sun is mean right now I’m tempted to sit in there and wait it out regretfully that would not be very time efficient we have a lot of ground to cover so as mean as the sun is we are still gonna hit the road hopefully the road’s going forward are not as bad as the roads we were just on yesterday those are really bad why does everything look worse when the sun is directly overhead like if this was nine o’clock in the morning I’m sure this would look gorgeous but here it just looks hostile you know losing my phone back there makes me wonder which Tech items would I actually go back for this GoPro that I’m holding in my hand I would have to go back for it I would probably go back for my phone I think the only reason I didn’t go back for my other phone is because it was a spare it was like an emergency phone we are entering border control now for Kosovo okay that’s weird um there’s nobody check this out this is the door handle while we’re here in town I think we’re going to take the opportunity and we’re going to go to the hardware store and we’re going to actually fasten myself a backpack carrier I’ve got holes that I can screw things into I want to get a plate that I just put the backpack down on so there’s not sliding back here and getting caught in my wheel and my chains I think that’s what we’re going to do tomorrow if we don’t do that soon my backpack is going to get torn up and my stuff will fly all over the road I do have Coca-Cola zero oh this is wild that flips thread Locker now when you look for the Allen wrenches I cannot I can feel it I can tell you how big it is by feeling um that’s probably right okay we found the thread Locker on the bolts they say they don’t have any like flat piece of metal but I’m gonna look to see if we can find something that might suit that need possibly um maybe something like this I would screw this on the edge of my bike and this would hold the bag up the little kid is the only one that speaks like good English here so he’s helping me find all the things that I need I like describe my problem when he goes to the shop and finds all of my stuff for me oh bungee cables bungee cables bungee cables jumper cables I need bungee cables like rubber band I’m gonna bring one of mine in there so then like I don’t know how to say bungee Cable in Serbian or Albanian we have almost got everything we’re just hunting for the bolts that will fit through these screw holes and through my bike we think we found a bolt that works we’re just gonna go test it on the bike it might fit uh just like I can’t do this with that GoPro okay it fits so we just need a bunch of these and the bolts that go along with them perfect yep so just a handful of those too okay I think we’ve got everything we need we got the wrenches we got the thread Locker we got the bungee cables okay this should be everything that we need we’ve got cables we got brackets we got the thread Locker bolts nuts uh washers and the Allen wrenches I think we’re good I don’t know how they’re going to try to like figure out how much this costs if there’s gonna like I have no idea how that’s gonna work that entire thing was 21 or 21 euros crazy I love this country now let’s take our bolts and okay so what I think that I want to do is I think I want to try to straighten this out and I want to still hold the backpack right here I think that’s still what I want to do okay so I think that this will go right here like that so I’m realizing I don’t think I have a tool to actually twist these bolts I don’t think I can get these tight enough with my finger oh you gotta ratchet that’s fantastic thank you uh um do you want to help me yes okay okay so we need to get this uh yes you hold him on the background yeah it takes like two seconds to turn on and then yep you’re perfect you’re recording so right now we need to we we screwed the bolts in but we forgot to apply the thread Locker so we’ve got to take the bolts out put the thread Locker on and then put the bolts back in we should actually probably put this on all of the bolts on all of the bike actually why is it coming out while they work on the other side we’re going to come over here we’re going to stick the thread Locker on the um kickstand so this won’t come loose again can you hand me the glue the thread Locker so basically right now he’s tying the screws on them okay we’ve got a place to store the backpack we’ve got the kickstand fix I think that this is set say hi all of these backpack later let’s see if this actually fits okay so this will just hold the the weight of the bag right here as those brackets God damn it I think that works really well this is sturdy this is not going anywhere and it doesn’t touch any of the chains or smokes so nothing is going to get damaged I think this is perfect I definitely understand why they think it’s a motorcycle I need to start adding things to this side to balance out the weight so I’m remembering right now that there is one more thing that I wanted to fix when I have my laptop here the laptop of the metal hits it’s like resting up against this bar right here and anytime I get in a crash or go on like a really hard bump it slams against this metal and it dents my laptop you guys have seen the dents I think I want to get something that will I’m not sure what but something that will make it to where I can carry my laptop without having metal on metal contact I think that is going to be the end of it for the Vlog it’s getting late and the GoPros are really bad at night so I’m gonna stop filming but I will catch you guys tomorrow and we will do more work on the bike then I’m gonna get a brush I’m going to clean everything inspect it make sure nothing is broken fix all of the dented stuff yeah I do want to show you guys something check this out I noticed that the treads on my back tire are actually starting to get kind of kind of low at least compared to the front tire I might possibly want to swap tires or swap the outer tire so that the fresher front tire is in the back Future Ain’t problems I just realized I also need to get sandpaper when we go back tomorrow because these Corners are really sharp and it would really suck to like hit your shin against something like this while you’re walking by it so we’re going to sand these down to where they’re not as sharp and they’ll cut stuff if something yeah sandpaper gotta remember sandpaper tomorrow

I was following a bike packer who was riding through Albania but he would just knock on people's doors and ask if they had a room and what he found were the kindest, most generous people ever. If I private citizen couldn't take him in, he would go to a restaurant and he found out that the restaurants always had a room somebody could stay in for the night. Im presuming because the restaurants generally served strong spirits and somebody who over imbibed could sleep it off in their back room.
