We only had 1 night in Heidelberg but felt like we explored as much as we could. Our first night was EXTREMELY rainy so didn’t explore until late when everything was closed. However, Heidelberg Castle was a wonderful outing! We did pay the extra 6€ for the guided tour and learned more about the castle and the importance of it. Highly recommend the tour if you have the time. We unfortunately ran out of time for the gardens, but it just means another trip!

Thank you Heidelberg for a great day!

Welcome to H Highleberg, Germany, where it’s raining. As the weather was crap, we actually weren’t going to go out. But we did decide to venture out, and we found this really cool local brewery called Herick. The rain subsided when we were ready to leave. And we decided to go venture out into the old city. I didn’t really do much research on H Highidleberg since we were only staying for a night, but we did find some really cute little alleys and a beautiful cathedral all within the old city. We were just wandering and we came across this bridge that had a wonderful view of the city and I got my first view of H Highleberg Castle. The old city was pretty quiet and a lot of things were closed. But we enjoyed just wandering around when it was quiet and we jumped on a bus back to our hotel to call it a night. Although we were leaving the next day, we knew the one thing we wanted to do before leaving was to visit H Highleberg Castle. We entered on the Bergve, meaning castle road, which takes about 5 to 8 minutes. To enter the castle is €11 and it’s €6 for an additional tour. Welcome to H Highleberg Castle. H Highleberg Castle was built across several different decades with the first dating back to around the year 1214. The castle is home to the Deutsches Apoten Museum or the German Pharmacy Museum. It’s free to enter and I highly recommend visiting. We had about 30 minutes before the guided tour started and there was people practicing for some festivals, so we listened to some opera music. The guided tour lasted about an hour and a half and takes you to some restricted parts of the castle where you can see a lot of the nonreconstructed parts of the castle up close. Something I found very interesting is that this castle has actually been destroyed twice because of lightning and was only really partially rebuilt since the demolitions in the 17th and 18th century. Before leaving, we took a visit to the H Highleberg Tune, which is the world’s largest wine barrel, built in 1751 and can hold just over 58,000 gallons of wine. We just walked down from H Highleberg Castle, and there’s a cute old lady selling fresh apples, apricots, and strawberries for €3. There was a lot more to see at H Highleberg Castle that we missed, such as the gardens. But we had a three-hour drive ahead of us. So we left the castle, headed out of H Highleberg and headed to our next destination.
