🚴♂️ Gravel Ride: Angles to Saint-Julien-des-Landes (Almost) – A Scenic Detour Through the Marais Poitevin 🌾
Sometimes the best rides don’t go as planned — and that’s exactly what makes this one special. I originally set out from Angles toward Saint-Julien-des-Landes for a family day at the Accrobranche park, but about 80% into the ride I got the call: plans had changed, and everyone had gone to Moutiers-les-Mauxfaits instead. So yes — this route took an unexpected twist! Still, it’s far too beautiful not to share. The first part especially is packed with incredible gravel sections that deserve a spot on your ride list.
The route begins with a short stretch through the Parc Régional du Marais Poitevin, leading you into an area rich with agricultural gravel, farm roads, and quiet countryside paths. This landscape defines much of the ride — open, authentic, and peaceful — with alternating forest sections and tree-lined lanes providing just enough shade. Toward the end, I had to double back along part of the route and add a faster paved section to reach my destination, but the overall experience remains a perfect snapshot of French rural gravel riding.
