Lysebotn’s dramatic road leads out of the end of the mighty Lysefjord, the “Fjord of Light” 🌊
Its 1,000m granite cliff walls are etched with legends, over its 40km length, facing the sea:
⛰️ Preikestolen (“Pulpit Rock”) was formed by quarreling giants hurling massive stones at each other.
A troll was frozen by sunlight into the stone boulder 🪨 Kjeragbolten, wedged between two vertical cliffs for eternity.
Few people have ever lived in this harsh but beautifully rugged fjord. Even fewer small farms existed here, such as Flørli, still only accessible by boat. Even the village of Lysebotn has only one road, with its famous 27 hairpins, closed except in summer.
