I got into MTB a couple years ago and finally got my first ‘real’ MTB (a Marin Bolinas Ridge 2 hardtail) a few months ago. So we’ve been trying to start a family for the last few months and I was operated for an undescended testis as a child – I hit puberty normally, my secondary sexual characteristics and sex drive are normal, so that does not seem to be an issue and so far I haven’t had any problems (pain or lumps) down there while MTB-ing.
I’m a VERY recreational rider, mostly sticking to gravel, pavement and dirt trails here in Ontario and taking out my Marin about twice a week to nearby trails or parks if weather permits (about 7-8 months of the year). I also understand that the health benefits of MTB largely outweigh the risks that come with it like any other sport or fitness activity. However, [reading](https://www.cbsnews.com/news/bad-news-for-male-mountain-bikers/) a [number](https://www.chicagotribune.com/news/ct-xpm-2003-01-19-0301190362-story.html) of [articles](https://www.upi.com/Science_News/2002/12/02/Mountain-biking-threatens-male-fertility/70211038854776/) about how very frequent mountain biking can reduce sperm count/quality has me a bit anxious as we want to have kids (and given my history of an operated testis) and I was wondering what ways are there to protect your balls while mountain biking?
Any recommendations for saddles (I’m going to buy a padded cutout saddle anyway since the stock Marin seat is uncomfortable af) or techniques to minimize the impact absorbed by your scrotum/groin?
