The photo is an xpedo cleat with 6° float. Ritchey makes a 5° and I think all of Shimano are 4° ish. I mentioned a while back I couldn't justify $200 Frog cleats anymore. I'll still use my remaining frogs on gravel/road touring for probably 5 more years.

However, the difference in spd float difference is entirely the cleat.

the price difference is huge. Shimano cleats or knockoff are under $15 and sometimes $5-10. Xpedo and ritchey are $30.

Now, if I have 2 pairs of shoes (or 3) that's $90 vs $15-45.

xpedo and ritchey are just modded cleats (likely with less metal somewhere), does anyone have both and can you post a photo of them side by side?

I am going to buy some $5 spd and see how the float experiment goes. I may even have to buy a pair of xpedo to use as a guide in a pinch but this project is going forward!

  1. I fail to see what you are trying to solve. 90$ every 5 years isn’t the end of the world in my book…
