Hi folks,
I found this used rack at my LBS. Pretty sure it’s aluminum. Once I got home, I realized it is much narrower than the width of the rear dropout mounts. I measured the inside of the rack legs to be 13.5cm and the rear dropout mounts to be 17cm. I was able to get it on there (see pic) but it took some force. Is the rack too narrow to safely mount to the bike, or am I overthinking it?

Can you exchange it,? If not, try it and see what happens.
The legs should be flexible enough to stretch to fit the width. Be gentle.
Most disc brake frames use separate disc brake specific racks
You need a rack that is disc brake specific, whereas this is designed for a 135 old rim brake bike. It’s best to not try and jerry rig something if you’re going to use the rack to it’s rated weight. Generally disc brake racks will have spacers to accommodate standard 135 and boost spacing in the rear, and fit around the disc brake mount nicely.
You need the disc brake version. It’s made wider and has cool spacers.
It’s common to find racks that are narrower than the mount points, I don’t think I’ve ever had one that wasn’t. Just pull the legs apart to fit over the dropouts. Aluminium’s issue is with repeat bending, bending it out once to install is fine.
