Hi folks,
I found this used rack at my LBS. Pretty sure it’s aluminum. Once I got home, I realized it is much narrower than the width of the rear dropout eyelets. I measured the inside of the rack legs to be 13.5cm and the outside of the dropout eyelets to be 17cm. I was able to get it on there (see pic) but it took some force. Is the rack too narrow to safely mount to the bike, or am I overthinking it?
Thanks!

Likely to be a front rack. Edit: or a rack from an 80s steel bike with 126 OLD.
They’re designed with some expected play in mind, but 3.5cm in one direction is a lot. If it takes a lot of force to put on, that’s a force your rear fork will be dealing with constantly for as long as the rack is on it. The most obvious consequence is if you take that back wheel off, the whole fork will get bent inward slightly and it’ll be annoying to get the wheel back on.
You can bend it. Sliding dropouts are pretty wide. You also might have room to bolt from the inside.
