I have a 2023 Norco shore park. My friends dad switched out his rear shock for a coil (2025 pivot phoenix). I noticed the Norco has 190mm travel out back and the Pivot has 210mm. However, they both have the same eye-to-eye and stroke. So in theory, couldn’t I use his old shock from his bike? AMA

yes it will fit
You could use his old shock, but you won’t get more travel. It’s the design of the suspension, not the shock.

But the travel is how much the rear axle moves not how much the shock moves
