Leicester Diwali 2025 is here, and while this year’s celebrations are a little different, the spirit of the Festival of Light shines brighter than ever! Join us as we explore the famous Golden Mile, the heart of Leicester’s Diwali, where thousands of lights, vibrant decorations, and the rich aroma of traditional Indian food fill the streets.
For over 40 years, Leicester has hosted one of the largest Diwali celebrations outside India. What started in the early 1980s as a small community initiative has grown into an iconic cultural event, drawing visitors from across the UK and around the world. Historically, the streets were packed with tens of thousands of people, fireworks lit up the sky, stages hosted music and dance performances, and every shop on Belgrave Road came alive with dazzling lights.
In 2025, safety considerations have scaled back the celebrations. There will be no fireworks, no stage shows, and fewer large-scale events, but the Golden Mile still glows with thousands of decorative lights. Families stroll together, children marvel at the displays, and the streets are filled with the warmth of community spirit and the festive aroma of pakoras, chaat, and mithai. Leicester Diwali may be quieter this year, but it’s a reminder that Diwali is about light, hope, and togetherness, not just spectacle.
In this video, you’ll see:
• The glowing Golden Mile lights illuminating Leicester streets
• Traditional Diwali foods and local street vendors
• Families and community members celebrating safely and joyfully
• A reflection on Leicester’s long-standing Diwali tradition and its significance
• How the city adapted in 2025 to ensure safety while keeping the Festival of Light alive
Whether you’re a local visiting Leicester this year, an Indian diaspora member reminiscing about home, or a travel enthusiast exploring UK cultural festivals, this video captures the heart and soul of Leicester Diwali 2025. Watch as the Golden Mile shines, even without the fireworks, showing that the festival is more than a spectacle — it’s a celebration of community, culture, and light overcoming darkness.

Hello folks. Hope you’re all well. Happy Diwali to you all and welcome back to my channel. Today I’m here on Belgrave Road in Leicester for the celebration of Diwali 2025. [Music] Hello. Yeah. Diwali. Thank you very much, sir. Thank you. Thank you for your time. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Diwali subhangalu. I hope you enjoy this video and if you do, please don’t forget to subscribe, like and share. Many thanks. It’s my third year covering this beautiful, sparkling and vibrant event. The biggest one outside of India. Last year the turnout was 50,000 strong. Diwali 2025 minus the fireworks minus the causington park minus the stage but it still sparkles. Yeah. Why? Lots and lots of people. I don’t think the stage not being here and the fireworks not being here has made any difference to the celebration at all. It’s still buzzing with people. Couldn’t tell you how many there are. Last year there were 50,000. This year I don’t know. We’ll find out later on perhaps. Shame about the weather. It’s a bit wet. But that’s not stopped people coming. It does not deter them. Hello. All right, sir. You okay? Yeah. All right. You? Yeah. Do you recognize me? Yeah. Yeah. How are you? You were the star of the show in my last video, right? Thank you very much. No problem at all for all people. Thank you. Happy Diwali to you as well. Happy Diwali to you as well. Boom. There we go. Boom. There’s a beautiful jewelry stand here. [Music] Thank you. Oh, they look beautiful. They do. Yeah. Do you do YouTube? Yes. Yes. Yes. I got my YouTube channel. What’s it called? Uh, it’s Ali Monty. How’s business, guys? Good. Fantastic. [Music] [Music] Guys, look at the crowd. [Music] Fireworks. No fireworks. It’s going to carry on. Happy with you. Look at this food. Glorious food. Any fresh juices? Yeah. One sugar cane, please. Anything else? Any samosa, chart, chili, paneer, noodles? Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music] Guys, if you want a taste of India, come to Leester. Yes. Yeah. Thankfully, the rain has stopped. Oh god, that was dangerous. A little walk through for you guys through the crowds. I’m so glad the rain has stopped. [Music] Our next stop is going to be [Music] the Reangoli exhibition that’s held further down the road. I do want to go onto the wheel later on if I get the opportunity. It’s not too late. And look at that guys. That’s Malabar gold and diamonds. A new addition on Mountain Road. I think he hasn’t been here that long, but apparently these are a world famous chain. I can’t believe the crowds. I think it’s probably going to top 50,000 people or more maybe this year. The cancellation of the fireworks and the stage I don’t think has made any difference at all. People are still streaming in. Wa! Look at the crowds. Guys, this is the reason Belgrave Road is called the Golden Mile. Look at the gold there, guys. [Music] Beautiful. gold bar. This is just one of the tens of shops, gold shops that are on Melton Road. Belgrade Road. Sorry. Kitchen 26. This is where I would have my power before starting the Diwali day. But unfortunately, today I couldn’t get time off work, so I didn’t come to Balgrave Road till about 700 p.m. I usually start off at about 2:00 p.m. and then have a power line here, but as you can see, it’s kicking. Hallelujah. foreign [Music] mama. foreign waiting for you. Look at the amount of people. My god, this is unreal. This guys is the centerpiece of the Belgrave Road lights. A former church converted into a community center. We’re now entering this building. There is a Rangoli exhibition that’s held here. If you have watched my previous videos, you must have noticed [Music] [Music] you. [Music] This is called Rangoli and all these paintings are made with colored powders. [Music] [Music] [Music] laughing. [Music] I don’t know why you want to go. [Music] [Music] Isn’t that beautiful, guys? Look at that. [Music] [Applause] That is exceptionally beautiful. [Music] Can see the size of it. [Music] Yeah, I’m maybe we go all the way. [Music] Now that is my favorite dosa place duction. I intend to do a food review at that place. Best dosa in Lea. Yeah. [Music] [Music] Krishna. Honey, I’m [Music] [Music] I’m [Music] happy. [Music] [Music] just carries on and on and on. I’m now walking towards the top end of Mel Road. Crowds are thinning a bit down here now. [Music] This house is going a little foggy. sort of a lot of people say that [Music] I like this yellow. [Music] Good afternoon. That is the latest edition of Calgary Road. The mural of Bobby Rishi Kapoor and Dimple Kapia. [Music] I think Rishi Kapur looks all right. But Kapia is a lot prettier than that. [Music] That’s another one of Belgra Road landmark. [Music] Now it’s YouTube. Happy Diwali. Happy Diwali. Happy Diwali to you all. Happy New Orle. Very nice video. Oh, thank you. Thanks a lot. It’s going to be on YouTube tomorrow. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. my video please. Yeah, why not? Happy Diwali. Happy Diwali. Heat. Heat. That’s it, folks. I hope you’ve enjoyed this video and if you have, please don’t forget to subscribe, like, and share. And I’ll see you in the next one. Bye for now.

  1. We all know why most of the people are walking with miserable faces – Thanks to the self proclaimed 'Safety committee' ,who stopped the Dance stages and the Fireworks Display and made it a boring event. God only knows who sits on this miserable committee, or was it a apathetic excuse to cut costs.
There is a video on YouTube showing various cities round the world celebrating Diwali and they all featured exciting Dances and Fabulous Fireworks. This is the first time Leicester celebrations was not featured on this video. Wonder why. ..
Will the same Safety Committee ensure that same restrictions are enforced on Guy Fawkes night and on new Years Eve Fireworks. …
Happy Diwali and Saal Mubarak to all.
Lets see what further restrictions are imposed on us in 2026?

  2. PEACEFUL RELIGION = PEACEFUL PEOPLE
VERY TOLERANT VERY OPEN MINDED VERY PROGRESSIVE
WHITE, BROWN AND BLACK PEOPLE TOGETHER, GAY AND STRAIGHT TOO!

  3. Why were no protest marches held when "Safety Committee" made that announcement on basis of religious discrimination, why MPs for Leicester not approached for their intervention and comments, why the Indian Ambassador was not involved and why the Hindu members of Parliament didn't take up issue in the Parliament and why opinion sought under Equality Act 2010?
Only gives the impression that Hindus, Jains, Sikhs and others are timid and shy unlike muslims.
