In Aen Province, 88 mm of rain fell between 6:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. equivalent to a month’s rainfall. The Bushes Durang and Vakus regions remained in the grip of a powerful thunderstorm Sunday night. Flooding was reported in Martigings, isters, Saland Province, Casiz, and Aen province. Driving conditions around these towns were difficult, if not impossible, due to significant standing water on the roads. Across the department, significant water runoff occurred with localized flooding on highways and in various towns. Several dozen vehicles were submerged in roundabouts or low-lying areas. Many cities experienced more than 100 mm of rain on Sunday, a long-standing phenomenon in an area this vast. In Maragnane, nearly 59 mm of rain fell in just 24 minutes and nearly 77 mm in an hour. This is an extraordinary intensity of rainfall. Just 48 hours after a heat wave hit much of France, temperatures began to drop and severe weather began to take hold.
