After favoring the G-Line over the last several weeks, I took my C-Line 6 speed for an 18-mile ride this morning. Some thoughts on the C-Line after riding the G-Line so much:
- The C-Line remains super fun to ride. I love that bike.
- The C-Line feels faster even though it isn't really faster. The handling is sharper, though. 16" wheels and different geometry offer that advantage.
- The C-Line was a pleasure to carry up and down the stairs. It feels featherweight next to the G. I weighed my bikes on the bathroom scale today. C: 27.2 lbs; G: 33.6 lbs (both bikes with toolkit and pump installed). You will certainly notice that extra 6.4 lbs if you carry the G on and off trains, up stairs, etc.
- I felt every crack in the pavement on the C-Line, to the point where I was lifting the front wheel a lot. The rear suspension is more noticeable on the C-Line.
- The reach on the C-Line feels much shorter than the reach on the G-Line (size M). On rides over 30-ish miles I'd prefer the G.
- Though the gear range is around 300% (I think) on both bikes, I definitely noticed the large gaps in the 6-speed gearing. I can keep a more comfortable cadence on the G with it's 8-speed spacing. YMMV.
I did give the G-Line a bath today and I noticed a few things:
- The suspension block and rack pick up a lot of scratches when I roll the bike. Probably inevitable. They are cosmetic only, and give the bike "character."
- Decals seems to have trouble adhering to the textured paint. The factory decals are already peeling off at the edges. Keep this in mind if you're the kind of rider that likes to put decals on your bike.
- The pedal dust caps are finally staying put after I snugged them down (again).
Still enjoying the G-Line very much, but it was a treat to get out on the C-Line. They are both excellent machines.
