I’ve been riding in the warmer months the past few years and had been thinking about getting a bike to ride in the winter. I’m in the Upper Peninsula, Michigan, so there’s plenty of winter to do this. However, the winters have been kinda crap for skiing lately, so this will be my outdoor activity starting this year.
Now that I have the bike (2021 Borealis Flume NX), what else do I need? I have a helmet, but I need to get a liner to keep my ears warm. I’ll probably get some bar mitts/pogies. What kind of footwear do I need, to include socks? Base layers?
I would like to keep everything as budget friendly as possible. I’m not the kind of guy to go out and spend $50 on a pair of socks or something like that.
What are your temperature zones for deciding which layers to wear?

I consider studded tires mandatory in the winter, but they can be expensive.
Snow!
If you’re gonna ride it on the street or at night. Some lights.
