A two and a half bus ride from downtown Barcelona leads you to this beautiful medieval place of Perpignan just across the Pyrenees. This French city was once part of Catalunya and is still considering itself from that origin as a part of the population still speaks or at least understands Catalan.
By BlaBlaCar Bus, I did the round trip from Barcelona to Perpignan and stayed there for just a night at Ibis Budget Hotel. Even if it was already my second time on the city, I was able to see new spots and discovered a new Lebanese Restaurant that I will frequent whenever I’ll go back to the city.
Let-s walk around and explore the beauty of Perpignan on this new Episode of Steven’s Queue

[Music] It is a very small city at the south of France which is located at the historical part of Catalunia. Welcome to Pepinan on this new episode of Steven [Music] School. I know it’s been a long time since I saw you guys and I apologize for that because there’s a lot of changes in my life right now which are very good to tell the truth. But of course, I’ve been very busy. But here we go. And it’s going to be a long weekend here in Spain. So, let’s go to France. It took us 3 hours, which is supposedly just 2 2 hours and 15 minutes, but because of the traffic from Barcelona to Granos, it was very difficult for the bus. But everything was comfortable. The bus was good. And come on, it’s just three hours, right? And we’re here. We’re in France. Pepinan is a small city with just 120,000 residents. And right now, I’m walking towards the hotel. And you can see the avenue which is so nice because it’s lined with these palm trees. And now I’m looking for somewhere to eat because I’m really hungry and I’ve been here 2 years ago. So I’m back and yeah, let’s go. Let’s go. Let’s keep on exploring. It’s a very sunny day. It’s supposed to be raining tomorrow as the weather forecast says, but I hope it wouldn’t. But we’ll never know, right? Okay. Apparently, they also have siesta here. So, I cannot eat on the restaurant, but I was able to get my food. So, let’s keep on walking towards the hotel and then let’s find a place to eat, whether it’s there or outside in the sun. It’s a very beautiful sunny day here. I’m excited. I ordered a tacos with sausage and ple uh chicken. Okay, I’m going to show it to you later. First things first, I went to the La Post to buy some stamps because I’m going to send some postcards to my friends around Europe. And it’s always something I forget to do. So, I might as well do it first thing here when I arrive. And then let’s see where we can find some nice postcards that I can send to my friends. But now that we’re done with this Oh, this is the bulanger where I got the torsad 2 years ago. I think I should go in now and check if they still have some Okay, of course, part two of my objectives are already done, but not yet at her thought because they don’t have it. Maybe it’s in the morning. So, I asked the lady if they’re open tomorrow with my very broken French, but she understood it. So, that’s the most important thing, right? And then now I bought pan shop for free dessert for today with an evening [Music] [Laughter] [Music] snack. Heat up here. [Music] [Music] [Music] It’s very nice. I took a triple room because it’s the only thing left, but they gave me not a triple room. So, but it’s nice. I’m just one person, so I don’t need a triple room. I’m going to open the lights here. Okay, I think I need to put this one first. Bal, it’s different than the other eBudgets that I went to in Vienna and the last time I was here. But I like it. I like it a lot. Okay, welcome home. Okay, so I said that they gave me a wrong room because I ordered a triple and it’s just a double bed. But do you see something? So I think that’s the third bed. Let’s Let’s check it out. Oh, that is so cute. How do you do it, though? I think you’re going to pull it from here. Oh, yeah. Okay. I just want to see it. Oh, it’s so heavy. We better not do it. But basically, I think it is a bed. Let’s see later. Welcome to Perpinñan and to Steven Q’s fine dining restaurant. Pinñan edition. We have here a tacos with mez and pulle. And then we have rice and Algerian sauce. Always Algerian sauce when I’m in France. And noises. Now we will try this delicious, very expensive meal from France. French cuisine at its finest. And now to the tacos. Again, this is French tacos. They call it tacos even if it’s not really taco. No, I shouldn’t be saying that. So, this is the French tacos. A lot different than the Mexican one. It’s more like a burritos, but I always always have one every single time I go to France. M. All of this and some fries is €11. Oh no, the sausages are good. comfort food. It’s already 8:30 in the evening and now I’m looking for a place to eat. I found a Lebanese restaurant and we’re going to try it out because I love Middle Eastern food so much. So, that’s what we’ll try. And I think I saw the restaurant already. I hope they would accept me even if I don’t have a reservation. But before we go there, oh, there’s also a Japanese restaurant. Oh, I think I like that, too. Okay, but before that, I’m going to bring you to the river because it’s very beautiful and I think it’s one of the icons of Pinñan aside from the cast. [Music] Heat. Hey, [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Heat. [Music] Let’s start with the beef. It’s very tender. I think that has fat is always better when it comes to flavor. Okay. And this one has fat. The rice is so good. It reminds me of the rice that my friend prepared for me. So good. The salad is very fresh. This one is the sauce. [Music] I like I like [Music] everything super. So, I just finished dinner and the owner, I think it’s a daughter and a father, they are super nice. After I finished my meal, they said that uh actually they asked me to wait a little bit because they said that they’re going to give me something. And then they gave me a traditional sweet that the father made himself. Wait, I want to show it to you. I hope you can see it. Ah, I’ll take a separate video of it. Okay, so I tried it and it’s so good. It’s like a soft cookie or a biscuit and then there’s a filling [Music] inside. And the filling gives me a mix of chocolate and molasses or brown sugar. I don’t know. But it’s good. It’s very crumbly. I love it. So now I’m going back to the hotel, calling it a night, and then tomorrow morning I will try to tour you on the city. Good morning from Pepinñan. You can see my shirt matches the walls of my hotel room. It’s so funny. It’s 8:00 in the morning and my room rate includes uh the breakfast. So, I’m going to go down in a few minutes just to check out what to eat. [Music] As you see, today it’s very gray and cloudy and it actually rained, but now it stopped just on time when I checked out of the hotel. And one fun fact here in Prepon, in the last 22 hours that I’m here, there has been four locals already that told me that I have a very nice smile. Oh, I like that. I feel very welcome here. So, now we are going to the old city so that I could give you guys a quick tour and hopefully the rain won’t go. But in any case, I have my umbrella so we’re ready. Here in Perpinñan, French is the official language, but a lot of people still speaks Catalan or at least know and understand Catalan because before this has been a part of the principality of Catalunia, but now it belongs to France and with the proximity of it to Barcelona, it just takes around 2 and 1/2 hours to 3 hours. So, it is also a popular stop or destination for people from my city to go here and spend a weekend and have a taste of France. Right behind me is called the Castigette or Castayette in Catalan and it was once a fortification during the medieval times and right now it has been transformed into the Catalan Museum of Popular Arts. [Music] Wow. Wow. [Music] As you go inside the gates, you enter the old city or what they call the medieval town. And everywhere here is lined with shops, with bakeries, not shops that are selling traditional things, but actually commercial things like La Cost um all the brands that you could think of, Levis’s, they all are inside here. So even if they are, it is in a medieval place, they use it for the usual commercial. Instead of being a mall, this is their mall of the city. As I mentioned earlier, how Perinan is a part of Catalunia. Above me or on some videos that I have already showed, you’re going to notice there’s a lot of Catalan flags, which signifies its relationship with the modern Catalunia that is a part of Spain. And even if it’s already in France, it is still considering itself as part of [Music] Catalina. Heat. [Music] Heat. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Applause] [Music] So, the rain did come down right now. And good thing I have this little umbrella that I bought from Shopppee. I think this is just one or two in the Philippines. And it’s a very handy because you can make it very, very small if you want to keep it. And it would fit a very, very small bag. just like what I’m using right now as I go around. But look how green everything is. Oh, it’s so beautiful. So, it’s raining very wildly now after lunch and I still have to do some stuff before going back to the bus station, but I still have 2 hours. But I tell you, the rain is really strong. And one of the things that I should be doing is to drop the postcards that I just wrote for my friends. And I found the box. Tada. I hope it’s it is what it is. [Music] [Music] I just got out of the restaurant and the owner was super nice. I used a translator to say thank you and that I’m going back to Barcelona, but every time I’m going to come back, I’ll always eat there. and he responded to me also using a translator to tell me that I’m always welcome there and that I’m like a brother to them. That is super super sweet. And now it’s raining so hard. I don’t know. I hope it sucks. Look at my umbrella. [Applause] [Music] Hey, hey, [Music] hey. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] No matter if you need to do it by train or by plane or by bus, whenever you have a weekend, there’s always always a trip that you can do. From Pepinan FL, this is Stevenson. Thank you for watching another episode of Steven’s Q and I will see you again on the next one. Bye-bye. [Music]
