Cycling from Bologna to Ferrara with a little tour of Bologna before continuing on following rivers, canals, and quiet country roads through the Po Valley. It’s one of the most popular long-distance cycling routes in northern Italy, offering a relaxed ride between two culturally rich cities and one of my favorite cycling days.

Join me on a cycling and hiking adventure exploring Italy, the Venetto and Amelia Romana regions, on a 575 km tour by bicycle and hiking the full Alta V1 hut to hut across the amazing Doommites of the Italian Alps. So come along, I’ll take you with me on this multi-ep episode epic adventure. [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] All right, I’m getting ready to I’m going to tour the town a little bit, then meet up afterwards. Yesterday, like I mentioned, might have mentioned it was raining and uh I just stayed in pretty amazing place. Very nicely decorated. Yeah, unique. I love it. All right, let’s go and take a tour of Bologna and uh I’ll take you with me. Little chilly today. Might be 16° right now, but uh it feels awesome in the sun. It is just perfect. Let’s turn here. I think the first stop I’m doing is at the uh university. They have a lot of these uh covered sidewalks if you want to call it. Beautiful pillars. Look at I think I’m here. This could be the university was established in 1080 or somewhere about there. So I’m in the historic part of uh Bolognia. Look at this. All right, look at this. Even more impressive. They’re a little bit leaning, too. I don’t know if you can see this one over here is coming leaning this way, and the other one, I think, leans a little bit that way. [Music] Let’s carry on. It’s another tower over there. [Music] figure out what shoes. Looks like a serious job. [Music] [Music] I’m not worried. I have my guards watching my bike right over there. Still there. [Music] There she is. Oh no, I can’t get in here. All right, right here. There we go. So today’s ride total about 62 kilometers. And the good news is it’s all slightly downhill. You got to love it. [Music] I guess we go to the right maybe. Yeah, it would have been nice to cycle on that uh single track down there. But there was stairs off that bridge, but there was stairs. There was no uh there was no ramp. Or maybe it’s just for walking. Look at him go. [Music] You want to go down the middle? Well, it seems like we have no choice. Oh, there we go. [Music] So, we’re down on the middle road. Does it get better than this? Maybe. Maybe not. But this is awesome. [Music] Isn’t this an awesome uh bike path? [Music] Pretty amazing. Let’s be careful here. Some people coming. Yeah, pretty amazing. Actually, [Music] I I think we have to continue there. The bike path becomes smaller there. But I think it’s just for a short section. Oh, yeah. Little bit of single track, but uh just for a short distance and then I think we’re going to come out to another awesome bike path. All right, let’s go. Let’s go. Let’s go. There we go. and a bridge. Has his little garden over here. He comes and tends his garden. gets away from hustle and bustle of life. Down. [Music] [Music] We’re rerouting the path a little bit so that we continue on this awesome little trail and then cut off to the highway a few more kilometers down. Let’s hope it stays awesome. Whoa, whoa, whoa. Maybe it gets a little more gnarly here. Who knows? Not as popular. So, we decided to go back and take the roads. It’s a nice path, but uh there muddy patches that are quite uh quite large and we don’t know what’s coming up further. So, might as well turn back now. Scratch my leg up too in the thorny bushes. I scraped by. So, we’re back on regular roads now, but now there’s a bike path, so all is good. It’s coffee time. This place is selling bikes. Beautiful, huh? Retro. I love the handlebars. The old style handlebars. Beautiful. Beautiful bikes. Yeah. Yeah. Very nice. Canada. Yeah. Yeah. I’m just going to go get my shoes. Go in here. Cool. Always interesting. Woohoo. [Music] Down shift. Yeah. Nice. Getting on a little bit less traffic roads. Like I mentioned, there’s no real potholes here. Roads are amazing compared to back home, that’s for sure. [Music] Hey, ciao. Another bike path. [Music] We’re going. [Music] So, we decided to go off this uh beautiful trail and go down here to the road. [Music] We’re not following the river anymore, huh? Good timing. Little segment. And we have to turn right here on another fabulous trail. [Music] Graci. Thank you. Thank you. Bjo some kind there. [Music] Now we’re cycling on a nice nice beautiful road again. No cars behind us, no cars ahead of us. Looks like the uh perfect place to stop for a bite to eat and a beer. Oh, I see a sign. Bar central. This is the spot. This guy set up nicely. I like his arrow bars. Where you from? From Canada. Ah, from Canada. Yes. You see? Yes. Gracias. Let’s see. It was another glorious day of just cycling and amazing bike paths, trails along rivers and on city roads like this and highways. But they’re all good. Well, it’s a bigger town, but look at the bike paths everywhere. [Music] Wow. Turn left onto Patza Trento. Continue to castto. 150 m. Turn left on via Carlo. [Music] [Music] This is quite supposedly we live inside the medieval walls and these are very medieval. Almost there. One minute. [Music] Welcome to our castle. Your destination is on the right. 19. This is a 19 here. Canada. Canada. Italian. Italian. It’s fantastic here. Canada. Too cold for me. You You know what? You are right. It’s too cold for me, too. In Italy now. Too hot. Yeah. So, Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. This is This is going to be one of those one of those good ones.
