In more words- hyper does make items that are decent, but that is a straight up Walmart bike. Do not pass go, do not collect Walmart Scotty cranmer bike.

If you weigh more than 50-60 pounds and or plan to leave the ground I would avoid it. That is an entry level “Walmart” bike. It still uses one piece cranks and a wedge type stem. They are made in a bunch of colors and brands but all appear to be the same cheap garbage. If you value your safety at all walk away and look for a hobby grade bike, it’ll probably cost you double that or be totally clapped though.

That is a Walmart bike, Hyper makes real bikes, but this will definitely break in half.

Look at some walmart bike bmx bike videos, where they actually try to ride these bikes. They just fold.
Nothing is worth 80$ on this bike.

Two outcomes to your quest- liking BMX, or not.
If you don’t end up liking / sticking with it, you’ll wanna be able to sell what you bought for roughly what you paid and recoup most your money. Something like a lower-end build off Craigslist that’s kinda beat up but still functional, and uses modern part specs.
If you do end up liking it, you’ll want something you can gradually upgrade and will function as a good launch point (where any upgrades you buy will swap / improve a future legit pro-level build). ..Something like a lower-end build off Craigslist that’s kinda beat up but still functional, and uses modern part specs.

It’s crazy to me that there are still this type of threaded headset/fork setup on BMX after all these years.

I can usually be countrd on to try and find a silver lining for the affordable bikes that you can get from big box stores. However, this one is total crap. Barely half a step away from coming with training wheels. Not even as good as a Mongoose Rebel.

I am super new to the world of BMX, my kid just got into it and this group has been super helpful, so I’d listen to them. That being said you can find some real nice bikes on Facebook Marketplace, and for relatively cheap.

Never buy a department store bike. Rider-owned BMX brands purchased from a bike shop are your best bet. Yes, it will cost considerably more, but it will be good quality and hold up under the punishment of actual riding, whether that is street, park, dirt, flatland, whatever…

Dude, check out the Mongoose Legion L100. They’re on sale right now for an unbeatable price. You get full chro-mo, 3pc cranks and double wall rims. You’re looking at like 600+ to get that normally. You’re money will go a lot farther that way. As a wise man once said, “buy once, cry once”
