Was stoked to go back home and hit my local trails this weekend but when inspecting my bike I found what seems to be a crack on the back triangle of the frame.
Would yall ride it ?
is that a crack or just a knock from a stone? id probably ride it gently anyway, with a sticker to cover it up

Shit no

It just looks like paintwork damage from the pictures but im not an expert, I’d avoid riding it on anything too hard till you get it checked.

Looks like just paint. I’ve ridden far worst for longer. Eventually got it patched and good as new.

Not sure why people are so scared of paint damage. Looks fine to me. Ride on

20miles of not mtb absolutely

Is that an aluminum frame? It looks like it’s just paint damage on aluminum, in which case it’s probably fine. Bring it to a bike shop to have them assess

Yeah, I’d ride it until it broke. while looking into a repair service or replacement rear. It’s not going to catastrophically fail. You could have a hit that breaks it and if it does, you’ll just slow down or skid with your rear wheel. It’s not gonna launch you over the handlebars or anything like that in reality even if it snaps in two (which is unlikely). People are absolute cowards and don’t understand mechanics when it comes to things like this.
Unless of course you’re entering a wheelie competition. Then no.

Looks like an aluminum frame and just paint damage so yes. If you’re really unsure take it to a bike shop and ask them.

For sure there was some rock dmg on the surface, but it does look like most of the “cracks” are on the paint.
Cannot verify, but I think i should be OK.

Hi Everyone,
I appreciate everyone’s prompt replies, just want to note that this is a carbon frame.
reflect-the-sun on
That’s a complete failure and I wouldn’t ride it.
Ignore anyone who can’t tell the difference between carbon and alu.

Does it pass the ping test? As in tap it with something solid and listen to the sound compared the undamaged tube around it. If the sounds is damped when you hit the carbon is damaged for sure and should be repaired. It will most likely be ok for a bit and gradually decline as opposed to to a random catastrophic failure

How’s it tap? Looks like nothing to worry about for a few miles at least

You’ve marked the ends of all the little cracks. Now you have to ride it to see if the cracks expand. For science!

Yes 👍 my bike has many such chips. Hopefully all just paint.

Just ride it until it breaks. Everybody so scared of a frame breaking like it’s some life threatening catastrophe. It’s a chain stay, even if it suddenly snaps in half while you’re at full speed it’s probably not going to feel much different than a tire coming off the rim.

Absolutely not. I am sorry for your loss
