I remember going to Hollywood for the first time. Took the tour with a bunch of people from other countries. I was so completely embarrassed by what I saw. Filth, mental illness, drug use, and all out in the open. I was ashamed of America presenting itself that way to people who came to visit.

Had the "pleasure" to spend time in L.A. on a business trip last year. It was shocking to see the situation. The poverty, hardship and sadness were almost unbearable to watch. What was even more surprising was seeing the same thing in San Francisco, Seattle, Vancouver, and almost everywhere else on the West Coast I visited.
