Hopefully my thoughts on the site is helpful to some of you!
I bought a bike from Buycycle about 7 months ago. While I tried to do my research, I didn’t know much about higher end bikes: I had been riding an old single speed bike for commute beforehand and needed to upgrade due to planning a move to a region in the mountains. Ended up seeing an ad for a Cube Elite C:68X SL 2020. I didn’t know much about this model, but found online this was an elite racing XC bike worth over $5,000 when it was new. I ended up buying it for $1300 including shipping from Europe to the US.
Up until I received the bike everything was great. No issues with communicating with the seller, detailed tracking, and the bike arrived in just 2 weeks. However upon it arriving I realized it was not as advertised (see photos attached). It turned out to be a custom build where only the frame was as listed on Buycycle. (To be fair – some of the discrepancies are clear from the photo, but I didn’t really know what I was looking at, at the time. I know it’s partially on me!) Anyway, it wasn’t a significant downgrade – handlebars and seat post were a different brand but just as good, groupset was Shimano XT instead of XTR. The only real annoyance was the handlebar width of 650mm instead of the 740mm advertised.
The biggest problem I had was that Buycycle has an option to submit a claim within 24 hours. After about an hour of the bike being delivered, I tried to submit the info above, but the option to submit had completely disappeared when the page reloaded. I reached out to support multiple times about this and they just kept telling me that the option disappears after 24 hrs, even though it hadn’t even been 2 hrs. I didn’t push it because I wanted to keep the bike and I still think I got a good deal.
All in all, I’m very happy with the bike itself and it suits my needs perfectly. Still, I was disappointed with the inaccurate listing, technical problems, and unhelpful customer support on the part of Buycycle.
I hope this was helpful! Feel free to ask any questions. Btw – I’m still no expert on bikes so please excuse any errors!
