Just brought secondhand an old Yakima RimRoc which has the interesting feature of not holding bikes by a tray or the top tube, but by the wheels. I added a picture I found online of the rack in action, able to hold three bikes.
Having said that, any issues with holding modern carbon wheels on this thing? I won’t cinch it too tight, or too loose (so it won’t bump up and then crash down), but I have a bike with decent carbon wheels and that’s my biggest concern. My second biggest is placing an e-gravel bike on that thing too, I wonder if the weight of an e bike is too great and I’m not fully considering the physics of carrying the bike by its wheels.
Also for fun, it can fit my tandem bike on it, the arms are that wide.

Make sure your exhaust isn’t hitting the wheels
I think you should be fine. I have some Rockymounts ones that hold the front and back wheel and have never had an issue. That being said there was a weight limit on mine so check that first. I was told 50+lbs was an issue so I never gave it a shot with my old downhill bike.
