Hey all, I picked up this (presumably late 80s) haro escape yesterday because it is roughly my size and it's so weird and awesome. Before I've cleaned it or done any work though I wanted to make sure it actually fit me, and I realized that idk what a safe amount of seatpost in the seat tube would be. Currently I have it set where about 4.5in of post is in the tube, and about 6in of post extends beyond it. I have some wiggle room in terms of the minimum insertion depth of the post itself, but I really don't know if having the amount of seatpost in the seat tube end before the bottom of the mating between the seat stay and seat tube is a good idea with the weird geometry of this frame. What do you all think? For reference this frame is 21.5in from top of bb to the top of the seat tube. Thanks for any advice!

If your post doesn’t have “minimum insertion” markings, 4½” (114mm) should be sufficient depth. Especially since that gets you below the lower welds.
I recall in the Australian bike safety standards it was three time the diameter. But you best go see for yourself
