  1. Never seen this happen. Working with bikes for couple of years. Have you tightened the left side correctly?

Needs way more grease on that thing. Like I’ve seen them slather in copper anti seize, and that seems to work well.

Judging by the level of rust, you might be leaving your bike outside or riding in a wet, slushy environment with salted roads?

Also, saw your other post about the chainring rubbing. Are you sure you did not get a new bottom bracket with a shorter spindle length?

I have had good luck with SunLite and FSA bottom brackets. Tange/IRD is the upgrade choice if you want to spend a bit more.

UN300 are junk, probably the worst bottom bracket that Shimano have ever sold. Tange, Token, Genetic and half a dozen other companies sell more durable bottom brackets than un300 – these are all worse than Shimano’s previous UNxx series

  5. I’m seeing advice about grease on here, I have to say: you can put grease on the cartridge side if you want, but don’t put it on the cap side – the blue stuff is threadlock and it won’t do its job if you cover it in grease!

  6. Probably no tightening non drive side down enough. Those Shimano ones with the lock tight on non drive side are so hard to get in tight. I would get a sunrace one and grease it up and make sure it’s in there snug and tight.
