Hey everyone,
I got this old used road bike for quite cheap to build up as a city bike. As in, I can lock it somewhere without fear of it getting stolen or damaged etc. After riding quite a bit with it and enjoying it, I certainly appreciate the vintage flair of the bottomtube shifters, however, they are also not the most convenient being used to modern brake lever shifters. I therefore considered a conversion to thumb shifters.
Do you guys have any recommendations for 7 speed thumb friction shifters? I generally often see Microshift recommended, but they don‘t offer 7 speed versions as far as I have seen. The only obtainable and cheaply priced thumb shifter I found is the Shimano Tourney A050 ones. Any thoughts about this in particular or the whole idea of the conversion in general? Thanks in advance!

You will run into issues getting a thumb shifter on those bars as drop bars have a larger diameter than for flat bars, your best best would likely be to get some bar end shifters from a used bike shop or co-op and some cable stops that will bolt onto where your downtube shifters are now. If you can do this yourself or are willing to learn this maybe a good option to learn some wrenching skills
