Started mountain/trail biking a few weeks ago, was going downhill fairly fast, went over a rock/root that was too high up I imagine and it locked up on me and got destroyed. How bad is the damage looking? It's a cannondale trail 7 bike.

Need a new derailleur and derailleur hanger
That drivetrain needs some love.
Totally fixable and a common problem.
Things you will need: A bike mechanic.
It’s terminally bad. Do not resuscitate… put on hospice immediately.
Take it to a bike shop. Most likely, the following is damaged or destroyed, so they’ll have to install new ones, and tune it:
Parts prices are approximate:
1. Rear derailleur hanger. $30
2. Rear Microshift derailleur. $15.
3. Probably new chain. $20
4. Possibly new derailleur cable. $10.
Labor will be about $50+ depending on geography and what needs to be done. If you’re feeling frisky, you can spend about 10+ hours doing it yourself after buying about $40 in tools. An experienced home bike mechanic will only need about an hour to do it.
Somehow my wife wrapped the RD and chain on her POS Chinese bike around the rear wheel – this is slightly less bad but requires a complete replacement of a lot of parts
Cool, that’s the new Escher drivetrain, right?
Howd you get the beans above the frank?!
When the chain is both inline and sideways, it’s usually not great.
Little WD-40 should fix that.
Not that bad. It’s a pretty cheap drivetrain. You need a hangar, a derailleur, a chain, new shift cable, may as well do housing at the same time. I bet around $125 parts and labor at a shop. If you do it yourself maybe $60 in parts. Still go to the shop if you want to diy so you get the right parts. Hangars are hard to source correctly.
New Deuraillier, new hanger, probs new chain.

Could probably get away with a new derailleurs hanger $10
How’d you get the beans on top of the frank?
New bike needed, no further talk
