I was able to get two 90’s mountain bikes for 15$ total. I built one up to commute on and thought I would use this specialized hard rock for a project bike to finally try and strip and paint a frame. It was not easy… took a lot of time but I am happy with the results, it’s not perfect but I think I will try it again in the future despite how much effort it takes.

Cool paint job but stripping the hard rock was a mistake imo😭

Strip an ugly bike next time

    Your bike, your rules…

But that bike in the shape you acquired it in could have made a nice bike for someone. There’s a certain charm to something in it’s original, worn condition

  3. You did a cool paint job, but you should have omitted the before picture. That teal and red was prettier, even with the chips and scratches.

  4. It’s weird how people are so precious about a 30-40 year old entry level mountain bike. Don’t listen to the haters. Excellent job. Looks great! I dig the head badge.

  5. This looks like those shitty soda company giveaway bikes. Giving a Pepsi points 1990s vibe and not in a good way. You dun goofed.

  6. I recommend against painting with no clothes on. Potential for uncomfortable overspray.

Or maybe you meant you got the $15 for taking your clothes off?

/s for all the serious goobers in the thread.

You do you! There are no “rules” …so you didn’t break any, imo. Fwiw, the original teal makes me gag. Enjoy!

Ive got an old trek frame that’s been repainted already that I want to repaint. Going to get it sandblasted professionally but try and paint it on my own. Any tips?

  9. siiiick paintjob!
It’s your bike after all ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Might as well make it look like whatever you want to

Good work for a first time. I’ve never stripped or painted a bike but years ago when desktop PCs only came in beige boxes I learned to sand and paint and clearcoat my pc builds.

Why have a beighe box when you can have sparkly blue or red one?
