Looking for some advice. I recently looked at the “inside” of my chainring and noticed all these notches and what looked like missing pieces of material. Thinking it to be wear and tear so I ordered a new one from Canyon. Got the new one today but it seems to have very similar notches and dents.
Can anyone shed some light on this from personal experience? Is this normal?
I can imagine eliminating material has advantages in weight but this just seems kinda random.

  1. That’s by design to aid shifting and / or save weight.

There’s no damage on either chainring.
