Hello,
I damaged the inner wall of my tires with a plastic tire remover, I used gentle force so I have no idea what went wrong.
There is 6 spots on each tire like this exposing the metal frame inside. This is on the inner side of the tire wall. It seems like cosmetic damage and not structural.
Is this something you would be concerned about? Any way to improve my tire removal skill to prevent this from happening again? Or is it due to the rubber being old?
Thanks

Tires do get old and “expire”, with associated dry rot. I personally can’t comment on the whole tyre, so only commenting on what you’ve shown. Personally, if the tyre as a whole looks good without worn tread or dry rot, and you’re using tubes then I’d say it’s probably fine to keep using. If it’s for tubeless then I’d get a new one.
The “damage” is on the inside of the tire and not on the bead where it hooks into the rim.
It is not an issue. The bead is not broken, the wire is not cut, marred, or overly exposed.
You will be a-ok.
Side note… if that amount of wire was expose on the portion on the bead that interfaces with the rim, it would still NOT be an issue. You would have to experience a whole lot more rubber loss before questioning the structural integrity.
Throw a new tube in, air it up, and enjoy the ride .
As far as improving your tire removal, it’s hard to say. We would need to know what kind of tire levers you have and see how you’re using them.
Personally, I like Pedro’s tires levers.
I only use them in tandem. Two at a time and don’t try to pry of too much bead at a time . (No more that 3 inches,
Too much force grinds away the rubber casing.
