Hi, I am looking for a top rear rack bag which I can easily access and have found the Tailfin Aeropack to be a good option. However, I cannot justify the price having to also buy the Tailfin rear rack. I am wondering whether it is possible to use the Aeropack on just a normal rear rack? It looks like I could feed the straps through the rack as seen on the picture. Has anyone tried this?

Previously, I used a dry bag on top of my tear rack but found this annoying as there was no easy access to my stuff inside. Also, if anyone has alternatives to the Aeropack please let me know!

I tried going down this road as I’d love to have that pack on my Old Man Mountain rack, but I was never able to get it stable enough.

I finally bit the bullet and bought the Tailfin rack. In hindsight, the quick-release mounting for the Tailfin rack has been more useful than I had expected.

But yeah, it’s a bit spendy.

  2. Tailfin rack and panniers here. Did away with bar bag. Panniers, more room easier access. Just so much easier to use. Why would I have to justify anything, I do what I want. Not worried about third party views.
