This is the best race I have ever taken part in – the short stage of L’Étape Romania by Tour de France! 🚴
L’Étape is a global cycling series for amateur riders who want to feel the spirit of the real Tour de France. Romania brings this spirit to life with professional organization, closed roads, and an unforgettable finish.
I’ve done other L’Étape events, including L’Étape Dubai (a flat route with great organization), but nothing compares to Romania. Here, the experience is truly next level:
Fully closed roads, hundreds of riders, supportive crowds, professional staff & volunteers cheering and guiding us through technical sections, sharp corners, and potential hazards.
This was also my personal best race: I set a PR for 40 km, riding with an average speed of ~35 km/h. Out of 1,044 participants, I finished 195th, which I consider a very strong result for a heavier rider like me.
But what makes this race feel closest to the Tour de France itself is the incredible Arcul de Triumf in Bucharest. Just a few kilometers before the finish line, you see this monument rising ahead – echoing the Arc de Triomphe on the Champs-Élysées in Paris – and in that moment, you feel like a true pro. I honestly cannot describe the emotions I felt crossing that line.
