The join cycling lantern rouge indoor series is live on Zift. Ride with me every Thursday at 8:00 PM European time with a mix of races and cool group workouts. Sign up through the link in the description below to get started today. Par one of the most uh prestigious autumn classics on the calendar especially one for the the cobbled guys where I think we should move Peru Baya to autumn. We have Da, the gravel worlds, Parour, and Rube in autumn. I think that adds a lot more to the end of the season. Particularly if you’re going to have world championships for all these hilly parkour, which the classics guys just can’t compete in. Why not have something for them with more prestigious races in the autumn? But we have this one here. It’s got a lot of gravel sectors, harsh gravel, too, uh, in the back end of the race interspersed with some hilly, punchy, shorter hills. So only 1,700 m of climbing in the race, but you have to have some punch. So it suits guys like Leaport who won last year, Ve Classics Specialists as well as Hill Classics, guys like Paul Lara, his teammate Jordan Leos was in the breakaway and he flats. And that’s also the story of this race. There’s some sharp gravel and you got to be lucky. You can flat out of this race pretty easily. And with 62ks to go, there were some echelons pre- coverage, but the attacks begin off the sectors. There weren’t really any gaps created on the sectors. It thinned it out. It would create like a group of 30 and then off the sectors. You see the trek were really trying to force something with VTK with Albert Philipsson. Uh TUDA were responding. Matteo Trenton had won this race twice before, but I think when it was a different route, Nicola Bruyard for Michelle was good. I think he goes to world tour next year and we just see yeah attacks again axelons before Josh Tarling Trek and so Matthew Brennan was having to respond maybe too eager or maybe he knew that Kristoff Leaport was the man to defend for Vizma camps comes back so Vizma had controlled early they then control in that phase but the Kathon have got other ideas on this kicker so there’s a steep uh paved kicker that then goes into the shaman deer vineyard Dear Gross, Pierre. So, Big Peter’s uh flat uh gravel sector comes straight afterwards and Vizma fall apart. Camponauts, Koi, Brennan gone, gone, gone. Trenton presses on and all of a sudden a group is created with like 12 strong guys. Dele, but Leaport’s isolated. So, the last hour and 20 of this race, Leaport’s on his own. Trek got numbers. Dathlon got numbers. Tibo Gruel looking good for uh group arama FDA Kovi also attacking and so for Leaport when these groups get created with two trek dele and mult multiple dathlon he’s just gambling he’s hoping they close each other down and don’t cooperate well enough that actually does happen vic was closed down and then a French duo go clear and Paula you can see biscus thinking about closing Grill and then La Perea jumps to his left. He drops the wheel of La Perea. It was in sort of just a the one stalled moment of the race on a nothing hill. I’m not even sure it was a categorized one or anything. They go, they get a gap as other groups came back. And there’s flats, Arabansen flats, Ano Dele flats. So that’s two strong teams. They’re out of the running. UX they’re not going to pace and they’re also riding for UCI points. Like UNOX are not riding for the win. Neither Aophodus. They’re riding to maximize UCI points with multiple riders. So they’re not going to pull, especially not when Abrahamson’s had a flat. So Trek, it was all falling to them. They were now the strongest team in the race with Dathlon the second strongest up the road. Sturban launches VTK Philipsson and they’re trying to just create a group with two of those guys in that maybe will cooperate for Leaport and Trenton who are isolated. This is good to have a a break that’s catchable ahead is good because it stops Tre attacking you. It makes them work. And they were closing. They were trying to get that group together. Here you see Philipsson pacing the climb. Vach going back to the group of Philipsson pacing the port back to the wheel. But then on this steep narrow kickas I don’t know what happened to Vic. We didn’t see. Did he hit the wall? Did he just uncip? He unclips. They were just about to get across. They were on six seconds of Gruell and La Perea. And then Leap’s looking around like, “Hold on, where’s Tre? Why Tre gone from pacing to blocking?” And now sitting at the back and you see Albert Phillipsson or no maybe another Trek rider looking behind a Dathon rider just had rolled off the front. The gap goes from 6 seconds to 42 seconds because Tre waited for Vachic to get paced back in and then now you’re attacking and stopping into a much bigger gap and you you’re not going to close 40 seconds with one attack with one rider and so Leaport tries to thin it out more. It’s still a good situation as I said for him in Trentin. He’s trying to get rid of Visiga. It cuts back. That group’s created. Trenton saying, “Let’s work.” Visa is trying to muck things up. But now you’ve got two trek, but for Trenton and Leaport, the Trek can’t attack them. If they attack them, they’re not going to get across to Lea and Gruel. And then it’s somewhat surprising then to see Leaport attack on this hill. Maybe he was trying to get rid of Biser who was sitting on. Biser is able to close him down, but Vachk’s dropped. And because he’s dropped at this moment, Philipsson’s still thinking about playing the numbers game. Also, because Leaport is faster than him, so he skips a turn with the other two just ahead. So, with him skipping a turn with Biscus skipping a turn, that just means they’re not going to catch the two ahead. When it’s two versus two and the two behind, they’re not going to pull fully committed if they’ve got two guys sitting on their wheel. Eventually, Philipsson gets the call to pull. That was the right one. Vach wasn’t coming back. And yeah, you’re just not going to win the race unless you pull with the gap at 10 seconds with 3.6ks to go. So he and Trick do the right thing. Those three contribute, but for Biser and Dathlon, it’s looking gravy. You got a rider in the group behind in case it comes back. You’ve got Lea who’s maybe equally as fast as Tibo Gruel in front. It’s about 50/50 in the sprint between them. Leaport’s having to work all out and then Lea just stops pulling. 1K to go. I kind of expected this to happen. The two completely bluff each other out. I mean, Dafflon like Bis is not going to win the sprint behind. It’s now too late to play the numbers game. The Kathon do have two, but you can’t roll attacks with 2Ks to go if they’d even stopped earlier. They’re they’re pot committed now to the sprint with Grill. And Grill also just stops pulling. And Bisa, I was thinking, okay, at least you throw in one dig. 700 meters to go. He’s going to attack from behind. At least he forces Leaport. He forces Trenton to close him. No, he goes to the front. So instead of Dathlon and Lea accepting a one-up sprint against Tibo Grill, they wait so that Biziger can do a lead out for Lea to sprint against Trenton and Leaport. So Leaport and Trenton probably couldn’t believe their luck for Tre. They got unlucky with whatever happened to VC in that narrow hill. Maybe they could have played the numbers game, but uh in the end, the two isolated veteran classics riders, both of whom have won this race before, got their chance, perfectly timed to sprint for the win without anyone rolling attacks on them. And Trenton launched first from the backward speed and takes his third parry tour victory. Very, very entertaining last hour I must say. If you want to watch some good racing after Lombardia yesterday, maybe go and watch this on replay. Trent in winning ahead of Leaport Phillips and La Pera Gruel Bisa Vach then got on the sprint behind. Well, I hope you enjoyed the videos this year. This is my last race recap of the year. Quite a good one to finish and uh I guess I’ll see you with the Alula tour in the end of January next year. Chacha.

such a wealth of knowledge about tactics, your videos are so great. thanks for all your work this season!!!!
Hey Patrick. I’ve been with LR for a long time. Would be nice to hear your latest thoughts on this personal career choice. Quitting law, moving o/s, going full tilt on cycling. Has it been everything you hoped? Are you making a good buck? Are you still loving putting these vids together? Are there whispers in the wind for taking it up to the next level? Best wishes for a well-earned holiday!
Idiots! They need to take a look at some long solo wins to see how to beat the big stars 🙄
Thanks for all your episodes
I’ve been saying this for awhile. If you’re bored of the Pogi wins there’s plenty of other races to watch where strategy and team work happen. No need to complain about the few races Pogs at. There’s so many other kinds of racing.
Bravo Trentin, love to see him win
They were pot committed🤣
Couldn’t believe my eyes!
Idiots!!!
Another season of classy commentary and race reviews. Thank you.
As Chris Horner would say, they’re a couple of knuckleheads.
Thx, Patrick~for another great recap, and for all u (and Benni) have done with the podcast over the season!🙏👍
Well looks like you've got to get Luke Rowe on the pod to explain this one 😬
DAT… i never understand what their tactics are.
Team and riders tactics are so poor these days. Pogi is a once in a lifetime talent, but he is one of a few riders currently who knows how to race. It's irrelevant to this race, but riders and teams need to seriously up their game to beat him…
Idiotic tactics from Decathlon!….who called that shot!? going from an arguable 80% win chance to a 20%…..Like you said, the only +ve that could have come out of it was if Bissegger jumped at the juncture (with a slim chance of staying away with no one committing) or forcing Trentin and LaPorte to commit early and providing Lapeira with a chance of coming around…..but his odds were arguably still reduced over the initial scenario!
2 guys that played games didn’t even podium wow speechless
Sheesh. Some real balls-in racing there at the end. It was such a weak lead out, too. You've got a guaranteed 2nd place for the team, with a shot at taking the title. End up with 4th. Nutters.
Thanks for all the 2025 content. 🙂Enjoy your break.👍
It's always disappointing when a race isn't covered by Lantern Rouge. Have a great year, guys! God bless ya'll ❤🎉
I get more insights into what actually happened in a race and learn more about racing in general in just one 8 minute Lanterne Rouge video than 5 hours of live commentary and 10 minutes highlights from all the other bike racing channels….you're the best and I look forward to every upcoming video, keep 'em coming mate!
Face palm
End of January… so sad no more races for the year. Maybe I can get my home improvement projects done finally!
Wonder if Luke watched this take shape? 🤔🤐
Thanks for 2025 mate, very well delivered
Why did Lapeira come off the wheel of Bissegger so early? Looks like Gruel jumped first from some way out which drew out everyone else. If Lapeira had stayed on Bissegger he might have been able to wheel surf in once the others had come around. Neither Gruel or Lapeira had any chance in a 200 odd meter mano a mano sprint against Trentin and Laporte.
Great to see Trentin get a win, however, that finish with both Gruel and Lapeira is one of the best "French" cycling tactics i have seen for a very very long time🤣. French teams just cannot even allow the thought of a possibility of another French team winning ahead of them. There was a French rider from a French team guaranteed to win a Major Race that happens to be in France with 1100m to go(11sec ahead of the chasing group)……WOW. At least they get did 1st and 2nd in the 2025 Paris–Tours, that is over all the riders who did NOT finish on the podium.
In the current climate of Pogi, Jonas, Mattieu, Milan, Merlier, Remco, Mads and Philipsen enjoying the podium throughout a season i just politely ask this to all French Cycling teams, that when the opportunity to win a big race happens again in the future and there are 2 french teams going head to head, please for all cycling fans, do not change. The reason is, that was hilarious🤣.
Like everyone has said Patrick, thanks for the 2025 season and enjoy the off season, love your work mate.
I don't get it. Why do riders play games like this? Screw team orders – you have a chance to win the whole damn thing! Hero to zero in 1000 metres…
Its confusing until you realize that they are french. The french literally killed road cycling when they used armstrong as a scapegoat to pretend doping wasn't a big thing.
Nice Recap. Unbelievable moment, the finish line is 1.1 km in front of them, they have 11 seconds, and they stop riding, waiting for the few others ! ? Nobody can understand that, Nobody.
When you put money on Lapeira 😆😭
Thanks for the videos!
Wow talk about crap race tactics… great that it played perfectly into Trentin's favour. Chapeau Matteo!
Thank you for a great season Patrick, been a pleasure with the recaps.
Beyond ridiculous!
They bust their asses for 25K to keep a handfull of seconds, to then just give it away with the finish line in sight….
This was almost more painfull to watch than womans cycling tactics….
If Vacek really is Czech name, i should be pronounnced vɑːt͡sɛk (with ts not with sh).
