King Alfred’s Way is the UK’s premier gravel biking adventure. Watch as three brave souls take on this epic challenge!

The adventure takes place over 4 days of cycling, covering 250 miles with 16,000 feet of climbing, following the route in a clockwise direction.

Day 1 starts in Petersfield, and finishes in Salisbury (67 miles, 5,400 ft ascent). The route begins on tarmac, but soon turns to off-road when joining the South Downs Way. The Queen Elizabeth Country Park is the next milestone, followed by the famous Butser Hill climb. Winchester is a good place to refuel before pushing on to Salisbury. Overall, a long day in the saddle with excellent off-road.

Day 2 begins in Salisbury, and finishes in Marlborough (53 miles, 3,400 ft ascent). The route takes you through Amesbury, Stonehenge, Salisbury firing ranges (watch out for red flags), and Avebury (Henge and Stone Circles).

Day 3 begins in Marlborough, and finishes in Hook (78 miles, 4,000 ft ascent). The route takes in “The Ridgeway”, Britain’s oldest road. This is grassy and rock with flint so pack some extra tubes! Along this section you will pass the Uffington White Horse, then descend into Goring for refreshments. The final push goes into Reading, then back out to finish in Hook.

Day 4 begins in Hook, and finishes in Petersfield (53 miles, 3,300 ft elevation). On this final leg of the adventure the team will navigate through a combination of bridleways and quiet roads. Passing through the historic town of Farnham, Frensham Common and the iconic Devil’s Punch Bowl.
