Huddersfield has a mixed reputation… but what’s it really like? In this video, I explore the town centre, admire some of its beautiful Victorian architecture, and share my honest thoughts on the atmosphere – a little run down in places, but still full of charm.
I check out the Rate My Takeaway kitchen, meet some welcoming locals, and take a walk through Fartown to see if it lives up to its bad name (spoiler: it’s not as bad as people think). Then I head to the scenic village of Slaithwaite before uncovering some of the wonderful hidden gems south of Huddersfield.
If you’re curious about Huddersfield, Yorkshire towns, or hidden spots in Northern England, this one’s for you.

What’s going on, guys? Welcome back to the channel where today I fancy taking a day off from flex or delivery work and I decided to come into the town of the city where I recently moved to the outskirts of called Huddersfield. What’s going on, brother? How are you? You’ve been playing basketball. Oh, yeah. You vlog? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Just come out today. So, I recently moved to Neil Huddersfield. I’m in I’m in like a by home, you know? Nice area around there. So, are you from Are you from Huddersfield? Yeah. Yeah. What can you tell me about how you feel? What you like about it? It’s really It’s really nice. Especially the park as well. Good basketball community. Yeah. Good basketball community. How long you been playing? Uh since year nine, actually. Have you? Yeah. How old are you? I’m 17 right now. 17. Good for you, man. Do you play competitively? Not really. Not at the moment. No. Good for you, man. Keep at it, though. What’s your name? Uh Timmy. Timmy. Zach. Some people have warned me against like the city center saying it’s a bit it’s a bit got a bit of an off vibe. It’s got nice buildings and stuff but you said you love it. What? No, it’s not that bad. Like I I come here often to the university and to college as well so I don’t think there’s anything bad about it and it’s a good place to like it’s a small small city so like you know everyone in it so it’s not that bad. Yeah. Yeah. All right bro. Best of luck with the basketball and stuff. One more time your name. Nice to meet Timmy. What’s up? Timmy Zach. Nice to meet you bro. God bless. Right. Good first interaction here in Huddersfield. Timmy, basketball player. Shout out Timmy. 17. Good luck if you put your mind at it, guys. Basketball, football, whatever. You can go far with it. And as a 17year-old, I’ve been basketball. I’m not a 17year-old, just turned 28. But as a 17y old, basketball, fantastic hobby. Now, we’re heading towards the train station, which is quite a famous train station. and you’ll see why. It’s famous for being absolutely brilliant to look at aesthetically. And a lot of these buildings are very aesthetically nice. You know, if I saw Thomas Shelby and the Peaky Blinders walking through here in their top hats and suits, I would not be surprised. Like a lot of the towns in West Yorkshire and in Yorkshire in general, you do kind of get a sense of decaying. This is a prime example of what I’m talking about. We got the rubbish on the floor and the back streets here. It’s a little bit disappointing. There’s loads of like kids clothes here, plates on the floor. There’s a bed. It looks relatively new to be honest. If anybody’s after a bed, a lot of rubbish on the floor. And it’s disappointing that you have that kind of thing in such an area with with buildings like this. I do really actually admire the architecture throughout Yorkshire. It is a bit of a shame really. What’s going on? You’re on Tik Tok. Tik Tok? Yeah. Just checking out the area. Have you got any recommendations? I’m filming me. I’ll see you later. God, she she’s at home. So, we’ll leave her. So, anyway, I will show you now the train station. As you can see, proper all the towns in Yorkshire. Proper industrial vibes. And I really like them vibes because them vibes represent the UK and what the UK has been in the past. A really beautiful train station. And yeah, more rubbish down there. So here we are guys. This is the pub just nearby. It’s called the Header Steam. Just take a look at that building. And this is the train station here. So as you can see, some fine architecture. Really nice vibes. And if you’re coming to Huddersfield for the first time, there’s nowhere really better than to come and travel through this place here. Now, she actually said she is going to see me on TikTok later, but she’s not. She’s actually going to see me on YouTube if she sees me on anything. But here we are. It is very impressive. It is a very impressive railway station. But where we head after that is going to determine how big of a fan we are of this town. Interesting fact actually. Rate my takeaway. Danny from Ray My Takeaway owns or partially owns a kitchen here with multiple vendors in a food court you would call it. And uh he opens it. I think he’s the lead shareholder in the company. It’s called Rate My Takeaway Kitchen. It’s built off the back of his brand which is fantastic. So good for him. He’s a bit of a national treasure because Danny is such a likable guy. But here we are. And people saying don’t come to Huddersfield. It’s not a nice place. I don’t particularly agree. See, the train station’s really nice, but also as you step outside the train station here, it’s also extremely pleasant to look at at least. So, let’s go and have a little look in the weather spoons, the cherry tree, it’s caught, and see how well we rate this place. I’d say probably it’s a mid-range weather spoon. It’s like not the best but not the worst. Well, if you’re new to the channel, I’m not Billy Mo’s well spoken younger cousin. I usually make content delivering parcels, but I thought today I was going to take a day off and have a little look around Huddersfield. See the vibes. Funnily enough, this pack horse, that’s actually where Ray My takeaway opened this kitchen. So, uh, I’m going to go check it out. We’re not going to review there. Not just yet, anyway. But when I reach my next target weight, I’ll come here and we’ll do a vlog. You know what? I think a really underrated thing to do. Yeah. But I never see anyone doing just £1 for 5 minutes in one of these massage chairs. Hey. Yep. Hitting the spots. £1 for 5 minutes. Not so bad. It’s proper squeezing my legs in there. But anyway, there’s a really nice smell here today because there’s a lady with some um some oud sprays. Smelling really nice. Nice pink tree as well. So, I’m sitting here having a good massage. Oh, there’s a really nice smell in here. And uh don’t forget to smash like. You want to promote your sprays on the YouTube channel? I don’t like being on camera. You don’t like being on camera? All right. Feel free to smell anything you want. Okay. I’ve not got you on camera. Just tell me what you sell here. We’ve got um a mix of fragrances from like the Middle East. So Abu Dhabi, Dubai. Yeah. Yeah. And all originals from the original. So you got after shave, h perfume. And do you like have house sprays and stuff like that as well? So we’ve got some air freshers around the side. These are the air fresheners. Yeah. And then we’ve got burners. So burners is when you have wood shavings. Yeah. And they’re scented and then you burn them in the burner and that smoke Can I touch? Yeah. What’s up? Oh, so you uh you set them a light like a candle kind of thing. Yeah. You use some charcoal. You use charcoal to burn them and then they burn in there with the lid on. Interesting. And it just smells out the whole room, the whole house. And you’re based in the park horse. Is that what you call this place? The park under the nice under the pink uh blossom tree. That’s not bad. £1 for a massage for 5 minutes, is it? It asked me do I want some kind of special ending for an extra 20 pound, but I said no. Don’t know what would have happened then. This is Danny from R my takeaways food vending place. And uh there’s like a Thai place here. Bobby Salt and Pepper. You got the Mexicali over there that’s not open. Smash and dash. And you also have Yorkshire puddings and spuds. I’ve been told that place is really good actually. So when we come here, we’ll try that out. I don’t think the Thai place is officially connected to the rate my takeaway kitchen, but it is cuz it’s in the same place. I just don’t think it’s an official vendor and I think it was there beforehand. That’s what I think anyway. Right guys, welcome to the center where I’ve been warned against. I’ve been told it’s like not the best place. This is very busy. I’ll give you that for sure. But I’ve also like few people cuz I make videos on TikTok as well. Few people make memes out of this Piaza center place. Supposedly it’s a little bit run down and it was once like a good place and now it’s you know all the shops are running down. All the vendors are show closing up. So I’m going to go inside and check it out. Got boots still up and running. Balloon people fancy dress hidden wardrobe. I was in Homefair which is I don’t know if it’s officially classed as Huddersfield or not but it’s by where I moved to and that is actually a really lovely small market town village kind of place. It’s got a good reputation. It is a beautiful place and I love living around in that district. No, but I was funnily enough in a charity shop and I heard the staff talking to one of the customers and the customer said to the worker, “Have you been into the town lately? It’s a mess, you know.” They were just talking about how the town centers become a mess in Huddersfield. They said all there is now is charity shops and barber shops, which is kind of funny because that conversation took place in a charity shop. But yeah, there is not so much in a center center. There’s an awful lot of charity shops and Turkish barbers here, which is good if you like a regular fade like myself. And they were also saying that the Turkish barb is a used bag. Arts and crafts and stuff like that. Some flowers, arts and crafts, stuff like that. Got a council building here. Another art exhibition building. So, probably the government are hiring a lot of these buildings out. And this is a charity shop here. At least I thought it was anyway. And I went inside the other day when I was wandering around and charging my car and I was stuck. The woman says to me he was working there. It’s not for you. It’s for asylum seekers only. But I don’t think I’ve ever been like sent out of a clothes shop or charity shop. I’m currently using a road as a pathway cuz there’s some works going on next to me. There’s a nice church here. I think I found my favorite building of them all. Take a look at that. Yeah, that sure is the creme de la creme. Now, unfortunately, there’s a guy having a little sleep there, which is not good. That’s the concert hall. Very nice. Anyway, I’m going to be leaving the city center soon and making my way towards some of the uh areas, some of the good ones, some of the bad ones. But first off, I’m going to go and grab a chicken from Pretty Charts Quality Butchers. Think they have a nice butchery here. [Music] Salmon Cup beef joint, but they also have hot food. I’m going to just grab a cooked chicken right there. All right, welcome to Fartown. I was told this was the Vegas of Yorkshire the other day, but I think the person was being sarcastic. Now, the houses are actually pretty cool around here. But, uh, let’s go on to the main road and see what we can see. Oh, hello, bro. What’s going on? Nice to meet you. Nice to meet you. You’re recording? Yeah, bro. My cousin. Oh, DJI Pocket 3. Introduce yourself, boys. My name is Shaz. Nice to meet you, Shaz. I live I live like 2 minutes away from Oh, do you? My name is Sh. Yep. My name’s Hashim and I live uh like 2 minutes away. I live far. So, what’s your job like? What’s your job? Yeah. So, I’m actually an Amazon Flex delivery driver, but I also do Tik Tok. I do YouTube. And I thought today I was going to just walk around the area and see what I’ve been in the city center just before this and I came over to Fartown. Yeah. I mean it’s a nice area but yeah good people but like in the hood is known for the crime. Yeah. It’s a nice area though I think. Is there is there rival gangs out there? Yeah. Yeah. It’s all done. There is a bit of crime but it doesn’t seem too bad to me to be honest. There’s a bit of rubbish on the floor as you’ll see. But uh it’s a nice area though. Nice to meet you sir. Nice to meet you. Take care guys. Hey take care. You got any recommendations though? Like good things? Yeah. Anything interesting? Greenhead Park. Have you heard of that? Sorry. Greenhead Park. Greenhead Park. Popular park. I’ll go and check it out. It’s a big park. It’s a It’s the biggest park. Is that the biggest park? Then there’s a really good park. Nature Natural Park. Nature Vulmer Park. Oh, I’ve been there. Yeah, that is lovely. Is it? It’s massive. Active. It’s active there. It’s active. Yeah. Sweet boys. Hey, take care. Nice to meet you. Now, we’re heading on to Bradford Road, I think this is called. It probably leads towards Brad Bradford somewhere. And as I said, it’s really nice houses and I was told this was the Vegas of uh Huddersfield. And it was a sarcastic comment obviously, but honestly, it’s not that bad. The houses are nice. There’s a bit of rubbish on the floor in the area, but it doesn’t look that rundown. It doesn’t look that dangerous, but yeah, there are like rival gangs here. There’s um rival rap gangs and stuff. And yeah, we got European market. It’s all right. It’s all right. I mean, there’s a lot of food spots. Chicken place there, barber shop. There’s a new Jamaican spot that’s opened and the guy’s cooking right outside called Iie. That’s pretty cool. Hello, sir. You okay? Smells good. That actually does. Hey, man. How are you doing? And you just opened, have you? I was just walking by. It smelled good. Can I take a little look at the food with the camera? Ah, that’s good. That looks like good. Some good jerk chicken, man. I’ll come back and try it out sometime. Yeah. Hey, take care, man. What’s your name? Orlando. Orlando. Is this your place? Yeah. Me and my wife. You and your wife? Uh, is your wife? What country you from? Australia. Jamaica. What country you from? Oh, what country am I from? I’m from uh Liverpool in England. Oh, yeah. Scor. Yeah. I’ve got I’ve got a slight accent. Yeah. Oh, is it? Yeah. Brilliant. I I’ll put it on YouTube. You know what? I have just But I’ll come back here sometime. I’ll make a good little video for you. Are you okay? Yeah. I’ll have to come back there. I do like uh some Jamaican food. Take care. Orlando. Yeah. Take care. What’s your name on YouTube? Uh Zack Jones. Zack. Zack Jones. Zac. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Right. Then nothing uh nothing stands out to you in Fartown. I didn’t I didn’t like film too much about it. Supposedly, it’s a bit of a different place at night according to some Tik Tok comments. And uh didn’t see anything too bad in Fartown and uh the city center and the surrounding areas to this place, it feels like slightly rough, but when you compare it with the rest of the UK, it’s it’s just everywhere seems to be moving in that direction. Now, now we’ve saw the supposedly bad part of Huddersfield. It’s all right there. It is honestly not that bad. It’s literally a little bit rough around the edges, but maybe we’ll go to Manchester at some point. I’m not like it. Manchester for me in the north of England is the place where it feels far more hostile than say Huddersfield or Bradford or anywhere in Leeds. To me, Manchester feels feels like it’s suffering the most out of all the major cities and towns in the north of England at the moment. There’s some of the wealthiest areas in Manchester as well. So, it’s kind of like a tale of two cities, I guess. But there are really nice areas in the south of Huddersfield as well. I’m living in one. There’s villages, there’s towns, there’s rural areas where you can go for nice walks and there’s cows cows in the fields and you wake up in the morning and greet your neighbors and it’s a really nice place to be honest. I really like it. It’s really homely. And uh I recently, meaning yesterday, got a dog for the first time called Mia. She’s a Ponamian Spitz from Ukraine. And yeah, she absolutely incredible. So, we’re going to go to a place that people have been begging me to go to called Slave Weights, which is one of these rural areas on the outskirts of Huddersfield. And we’re gonna go take a little walk around there. It is a beautiful place. Honestly, we’re going to show you one of the best areas in Huddersfield or around Huddersfield. I I don’t know if it’s classed as Huddersfield or not, but we’re going to go pick up the misses, pick up Mia, and then uh yeah, so you can really see the appeal to move to a place like this. Absolutely incredible. And the locals are so friendly, so nice. Houses are beautiful, beautifully built. Takes you back in time, but in a charming way, you know. So, Last of the Summer Wine was filmed around here, and it’s just a old school English feel that you just you just can’t help but love. This is the new home. Still pretty empty, but yeah, very charming again. So, I want to first of all introduce you to the beautiful wife And this is our new puppy. Hello, Mia. Say hello to YouTube. Hey. How sweet is she? How sweet to you. You’re absolutely adorable. It’s all cuz these are like Victorian houses. They actually have sellers at the bottom. I haven’t done anything with mine yet. There’s a lot of cobwebs and stuff. Don’t let her go. Okay, cuz I’ve got the salad door open. Wondering if you guys have any recommendations of what I can do down here. So, there’s some storage as you can see already. Got a suitcase there. This what I’m talking about. I can feel webs on me right now. It’s horrible. I put the boxing bag here. I’m thinking of putting an attachment that I can attach the boxing bag up cuz as you can see it’s a little bit wonky. And uh I might I might have like a home gym down here but it does need some work doing to it regardless. Here’s the bathroom and where I have the actual home gym is here. Just got a little setup. Few things. Everything everything you really need. No, I am looking to join a gym. I’ve just been kind of considering which one to join, what the best option is. Obviously, I’m still settling in in the area. There’s a nice tennis club as well that I’m keen on joining if like maybe if the finances were in a bit of a better position. Right. Welcome to Slavee or it’s also known as Slowit. This is an outskirt little village I think or maybe town on the outskirts of Hoodisfield and uh we have been here before once for a little wander and it is just that it’s a perfect place to wander and walk and chill. Really nice place here where canal boats are all parked up. How do you feel since coming to England? Hey, another place that I can imagine was uh brought up during the industrial revolution. Like everywhere you go in Yorkshire, you kind of get that vibe. I mean, check the buildings out over there. I like seeing the canal boats. And this is another place I think I’d live. A good thing about this place, it’s a lot flatter than where I am as well. But I do think I prefer where I am slightly. It would be good to maybe if anybody’s got a canal boat on the off chance. You want me to come take a drive? Then it would be my honor to come and showcase that. But the other good thing about this little village here is you can just park in the Aldi for 3 hours. No strings attached. That’s decent, isn’t it? Yes, bro. How are you? You all right? Yeah. Can I ask you what’s the best thing about Slowit? Uh the best thing about slower Yeah. Uh I mean there’s lots of pubs. There’s lots of like take outs. Yeah. I’ve just been here the once. But it’s just like for me it’s a nice vibe. Nice buildings and stuff. Yeah. Where you two going on a little ride up the canal? Uh yeah, we get a ride up there. All right. Well, you enjoyed that, man. Hey, take care of yourself. Uh but yeah. Yeah. See you in a bit, boys. Bye-bye. And this is that Aldi I was telling you about. Well, it’s been late charging the electric car tonight. I wish I had a charger at home. I was going to say I wish I didn’t have an electric car. That’s not the case. I wish I had a charger at home. Now Hood is filled. That’s my first impression of the place. and I moved from a city Liverpool that’s near and dear to me and I I really do love and appreciate even though at times I never felt I was accepted in the city um cuz I got a lot of a lot of backlash for having not for literally not having a scout accent but it I digress. Huddersfield is probably might be one of the biggest hidden gems in the UK. That’s what I’ll end with today. Because outside of the city center, specifically south forfield, you go 10 minutes and it’s a completely different world. I this is just off the top of my head after being here for one month for a place mar um home slave where we were today. There’s a place called Skeleman for standard of living. You get in these areas are compatible with pretty much anywhere in the UK for the same price. You can’t get that standard of living anywhere. The town center is a bit rundown and there are gangs and there are problems, but I’m very happy to be in the area. I just need to kind of focus on uh getting a little bit more stable out here now. And the lifestyle standard will be fantastic. It’s honestly beautiful place. I’d highly recommend even to visit. Like the video if you like the video. Subscribe if you’re new. If you want to see this style of video and other videos, feel free. Comment down below as well. Um I don’t see myself being the next Billy Moore or Charlie V. I think that life’s a little bit too negative for me. And like although I agree with some of the work they’re doing nowadays, not always, but nowadays really just rather focus on making my life the best best standard I can make it. Met some great people today. Everyone I got on camera. It was pleasure to meet you guys and I look forward to trying out some of the food spots. Take care guys. God bless. See you in the next one.

Good vlog.
wow loved seeing your beautiful home and family, thank you!!
I think these videos really suit you to be honest you should do more, kind of like Billy Moore style videos would be interesting exposing and showing the uk
You need to check out Halifax my hometown , Piece Hall is a listed attraction. Hebden Bridge is worth a visit also .
I'm sorry to say but it's grim and an absolute sxxt hole.
I'd say that's quite an accurate summary of Huddersfield. I've actually lived here most of my life. Its true the best areas around here are towards the south mainly. Although quite a lot of the surrounding areas are quite deaccent. Most area's of Huddersfield have nice countryside close by. Also I've been watching the channel since Zac was creating videos whilst delivering for amazon in the van. At the time I was considering going back into van delivery work, However now I know that there's the option to work as a flex driver I might give it a try in future because I like the idea of having more freedom to choose working times. Also I feel more relaxed driving my own car to do deliveries, compared to A company van.
Welcome to Huddersfield 🙂
Puppy is so cute
is a town not a city mate just saying
Try Bradford next Zac, good heritage and history.
Nice vid mate. Love discovering the unexpected architecture in a new city. Love me some back alleys and fire escapes 🤣 How about picking up a flex route in each city around the UK – can squeeze in some City vlogs and hotel reviews along the way!
Turn the basement into a fully furnished office with a proper setup and chair you'll never use a home gym
Holmfirth is in Huddersfield pal not near Huddersfield it's HD9 postcode
Making me home sick Zac..watching this from Australia..will be home to spend Christmas for a week.Lindley worth a visit..Brighouse and yes Halifax..Keep the faith Bro..
Live in Shepley and always go to Barnsley for a night out nowadays. Huddersfield used to be superb but it’s lost now unfortunately.
I grew up there, left at age 20, never went back, moved to the USA.
Check out slathwaite man. Loads of pubs about 50 yards apart from each other
I use to live in Huddersfield. What people don’t know in this generation. Is that we are always told that northern people are nicer than southern. Which is true northern people are nicer. However, the West Yorkshire side Huddersfield, Bradford, Leeds etc people there are worse than southern people but outside West Yorkshire areas northern people are nicer. I live in Oxford and people there are much nicer than people in Huddersfield.
Left Huddersfield back in the late 80s, never go back, its a shit hole
Huddersfield is a horrible place. The worse town in the country.
i was born in hudd s and lived and grew up in HUDDS .. for forty yrs… till i left to live elsewhere..but still visit often i have not lived in hudds for over 20 yrs,,and realise that it will of changed..but know that Huddersfield people will be the same.. a very strong black community..outspoken, straight to the point…and true…Huddersfield is uninigue…its hard to explain you need to have lived there and go away to be able to explain..
