Was riding the trails around Blue Diamond, Nevada when I had to take shelter for a torrential downpour. As it started clearing up this adult desert tortoise showed up looking for a drink. I observed him for a bit before he returned to the desert.
They’re such fascinating animals. If you ever see one please NEVER pick it up or move it unless its life is in immediate danger. Desert tortoises pee as a defense mechanism and that can dehydrate them very quickly.

Cool images – and solid advice. Didn’t know this about the tortoises, pretty fascinating. Sadly the only reptiles we seem to have on our trails are snakes & lizards.
