I want a dashcam that can record for hours across days/weeks without a charge (or have an easy way to keep it charged / powered on while scooting/biking), loop-records so I don't need to constantly delete footage for space, can mount easily to the helmet and doesn't require removal from the helmet to charge, ideally can easily transfer footage to phone or Cloud as needed, and ideally can withstand a crash or have some failsafe to attempt to preserve any footage in the event of a crash.

Intent is for catching accidents I get into. Rear cam unneeded, forward cam is sufficient; don't want to deal with two cameras, and a POV camera can be turned to look back.

I'd like something as on-the-go as possible. I want to minimize my time dealing with a camera. As a point of reference, I have a Go Pro Hero 5 Session with mounts, but consider that to be far too much upkeep.

Any recommendations?

update: got an alternative recommendation: a dashcam phone app that can overlay stats, and can record in lower res and loop record / auto-delete (to save space). i already have scooter mounts so can use this. current bike mount blocks back camera so may need another bike mount. much easier than dealing with a separate cam. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cz.tomasvalek.dashcamtravel

  1. I don’t think you’re going to find anything with battery life that long, but Cycliq checks most of your boxes.

  2. What you’re looking for doesn’t exist, you’ll likely need to charge after every ride. There’s only so much battery you can fit into a device this small.

Most folks will mount a Cycliq or Garmin under their bike computer, or look at some options from Insta360 or GoPro for solutions that will mount to your jersey or helmet

Cycliq – I have the front and rear ones – they’re basically the only option on the market that checks all of those boxes.

I’ve been using mine for about a year now and I need to charge them about once a week for my short commute – it’s a few hours total – but one of the big bonuses with them is that they have power pass through which allows them to charge and operate at the same time which means that if you have an external battery you can run them off of that.

They also do have collision detection which is a failsafe to preserve footage. They’re about as easy to use as your typical bike lights. I am a big fan.
