I have a 2013 Stumpjumper FSR (https://www.bikeroar.com/products/specialized/stumpjumper-fsr-expert-carbon-2013/s-gloss-carbon-red-4c3489a2-dd7c-4989-a9a4-e14ed9dede6f) that recently developed a pretty significant snapping/clapping (almost sounds like a cable hitting the carbon fiber, but I have checked all the cables when the noise is happening and had eliminated that from the possible source) sound when cycling the rear suspension. I have taken the bike all apart and with it put together without the shock installed and the sound can’t be duplicated without the shock. Then when I put the shock back in and hop back on the sound is back. So I am pretty certain the sound is related to the rear shock. Also it doesn’t happen immediately, only after 5-10 seconds of cycling the suspension. Then if I hop off for a few and hop back on, it doesn’t happen again right away until I put a load on and off of it a few times again.
Has anyone had a similar sound come from a rear Fox shock? It has been serviced regularly and the last service didn’t yield anything concerning, so I am not sure if the shock is shot or not. But given the age, I can only assume.
If it is the shock, does anyone has experience with a yoke similar to this one (https://bikeyoke.com/en/yoke-sj01/sj01) and then replacing with a new Fox shock like this one (https://ridefox.com/products/fox-float-performance?variant=45782556836064)? I’m assuming the 190×45 in the float performance version of the shock will be the correct one, but I don’t have experience swapping shocks so I’m not 100% sure. And with Fox not accepting a returned dropper post since I opened the hardware bag (despite everything being there still), I just want to make 100% sure before I spend over $500 on this conversion. Also do I need anything else to make the conversion?
Any help is greatly appreciated!
