I got this bike 11 months ago. For god knows why, the 7th gear skipped violently. I have retightened everything over time, I need to do a full indexing and general setup of the gearing. But, after the last quick service I did, the violent skipping is back.

And I noticed it does this – probably the source of skipping.

Is the chain too long by chance? I have a feeling it’s not tight enough.

Or is something wrong with jockey/derrailleur?

Any feedback is welcomed ! It’s my time properly owning and caring after a bike that I use for commuting (20km/10mi at a time).

Skip in jockey – causes?

Pedal it more slowly. Is one of the chain links stiff? (It does not rotate as freely as the others)

  2. it is likely a stiff link in the chain. you might be able to wiggle it free, but if not you can replace the link

Looks like you have a stiff link in the chain. Locate the stiff link and try lubing it and flexing it back and forth to loosen it up. If it doesn’t work, you can always cut it out and install another master link, but at that point I would just replace the chain seeing as it is an 8spd and they’re pretty cost effective.

  4. Sorry not sure I understand your post. Have you indexed it yet or no? Only thing I can think off of it’s not the chain as others have suggested.

  5. Peddle (with hand that foot ) it backwards slowly and you will see that you have a frozen chain-link. Oil and wiggle the frozen chain back-and-forth with your hands to free it up and it will stop doing this.

  6. I kind of saw the stiff link fly by as it was going round. Degrease and wiggle that guy free then lube up. God speed
