Take a look at my set up so far. I’m doing the Wilson’s ramble in Asheville, NC. 3 nights, 4 days. The terrain is gravel with some mixed single track. Some of it may need to be walked. I have front and back panniers but I’m worried they’ll drag or be to low to the ground (I’m 5’2 and my bike is rather small). But this would eliminate me strapping down that second top dry bag. Any thoughts on panniers on routes that aren’t road?

Yeah, panniers would work better than that setup. But you should also look into moving some weight up front. You could run something like Anything Cages on the fork, or even move some gear into a dry bag and strap it between the drop bars.
