Once every few months, local residents place unwanted but still-useful items outside their homes — books, furniture, vinyl records, plants, even homemade jams 🍓 — for anyone to take freely.
In this vlog, I wandered through York’s quiet streets with friends, meeting lovely people, collecting little treasures, and learning how sharing and reuse can build a stronger community

Hi. Hi, this is my friend Yolana. She’s come from Mongolia. Yay. She is also uh study about sustainability management, right? Yes. So, we are quite interested about like how the city can manage the waste here and then today we’re going to go the street recycle together. Yay. Let’s go. Yeah. So, you can check this one first. We do this twice a year. Oh, twice. Once in about May and once in about October. Oh, I see. It’s very nice. Lots of households taking part. Some people give things away, some people sell it, some people just ask for donations, but something small, just take it. That’s fine. Oh, okay. Thank you. We are from University of York. It It reduces waste because some of these things you can’t give to a charity shop, but you can’t really sell it online. Okay. But people will take it. Ah, so it reduces waste and it’s also helps to support the community cuz people people chat and we meet local people. Some people come every year. Oh, that’s nice. So, what if like someone what if you cannot like someone cannot take it all? So, after 3:00 p.m. Oh, well, we have to put it back in our house. Oh, I see. And then we have to find another way to minute it traditional. It’s not Mongolian. It’s actually from um former Yugoslavia. Oh, for for grinding coffee. It’s beautiful. I just thought perhaps you might, you know, in Mongolia, you perhaps might have a traditional coffee grinding. Do you know this one? Maybe not. No, not like this. Okay. All right. So they are trying to collect the teras but there is no tass here and they have to collect some leaves instead.
