Hey everyone,

I’m still riding the original cockpit (stem + handlebar) that came with my Trek emonda 2020 Sl5 but I’ve realized I’m not really happy with it anymore — mainly because I don’t like the look(I like it more aero and more agressive), and the handlebar feels too big for me. So I’m planning to upgrade to something better.

For context: I’m about 1.90 m (6’3”) tall (Framesize 60) and weigh around 80 kg (176 lbs). I’m a hobby rider for now, but I’m planning to start doing some smaller races next year.

Right now, my handlebar is about 45 cm wide. I found a Zipp Vulcar Sprint carbon handlebar (410 mm) locally for around 100 €, and I’m considering buying it — but before I do, I wanted to ask for your opinions and recommendations:
• Do you think that’s a good choice?
• Should I go narrower or look for something else instead?

I’ve also been thinking about going for a fully integrated cockpit. There are already a few options for around 100–150 €, which is my budget. However, I’m still not 100% sure about my ideal position yet, so I’m not sure if it really makes sense to go integrated right now.

Another idea I’m considering is using something like a Deda Superbox stem (or similar) with an aero handlebar, instead of going fully integrated.

Thanks a lot in advance!

I don’t think that sprint bar is for road bikes, it’s for a track bike (no room for brifters).
On my last Emonda I had the Zipp ec70 and really liked them but I also needed the shorter reach of the bars.

  2. Here’s my thoughts.

It’s been my feeling, since before narrower bars were a thing, that stock bars have been too wide. A simple way to measure is to fit the drops into your armpits, sounds odd but I think it works.

I put these on my domane and like the fit.

Try new narrow bars before changing your stem. Keep things in two pieces, it’ll be easier to dial in your fit.
