Hey everyone, if you are getting ready for your module 1 motorbike test, I’ve got some tips that might just help you pass. If you’re taking the test for the first time, it is generally straightforward. However, on the day, a few small mistakes would cost you your test. I know that because I failed my first mod one even though I had done it perfectly fine multiple times during practice. But I passed the second time and I want to share what helped me get through it. Before we dive into the tips, I just want to say that I’m not an instructor or a professional. I’m simply someone who’s been through it recently and I know how helpful YouTube videos were for me when I was prepping. Hopefully, this can do the same for you. So the number one tip I would say is do everything exactly as you did during practice. Don’t try anything new on the test day. When you practiced, you already proved to yourself that you are capable of doing it. All you need to do is replicate that in front of the examiner. Trust your muscle memory and the skills that you’ve built. Number two is like I know feeling nervous is human. It’s totally normal. I definitely was nervous. What helped me was taking a few deep breaths, smiling, and reminding myself that a lot of people pass this test every day. If they can do it, so can I. Sometimes we psych ourselves out by thinking the test is harder than it is. But it’s just a demonstration of what you’ve already learned. Then next I’ll move on to some specific maneuvers. So I won’t go into like the details of all the maneuvers. Just the three main ones that I’m going to stick to are the U-turn, the high-speed emergency brake, and the high-speed hazard avoidance. That’s because these were the ones that I found particularly difficult. But they’re not difficult. You just have you’ve done it multiple times during practice, so you just need to replicate that. Don’t let it get in your head that these are difficult because they’re not. So obviously if you enter once you enter the test center your gate will let me just find the pointer. There it is. So once you enter normally the gate is located over here. So you’re going to have to like you know you stop over here and then you the examiner will ask you to park into this bay over here. If your test is in the on like like this in the other direction, then it’s exactly the same. You enter through here and and you park in this um this bay over here. Um some test centers have both of these configurations. Some have only one. So, but they’re both the same. It’s just it’s in the other direction. So, I’ll stick to this one for when I speak. So once you enter they ask you to park into this bay. Then you have to do your manual handling where you park your bike over here. Then you do the slum. You do the figure of eight. Now one thing that my instructor kept reminding me was you have a lot of space. Use the space. And one other thing was that if you are over at this point and you have to go past this cone, it’s perfectly fine. It’s not an issue. They won’t fail you just because you’ve gone past over this cone here when you’re doing your figure of eight. Then your instructor will call you over here. Then you’ll have to do your slow speed um control stop over here. Then the Uturn. So I know a lot of you um a lot of us get nervous when we’re doing the Uturn. Just remember it’s a demonstration that you can do the U-turn. So you don’t have to impress the examiner by your scales by taking like you know a really really narrow um narrow what’s the word um tight U-turn you don’t have to the goal is not to impress the examiner the goal is just to do the U-turn between these two white lines. So, if you like once you’re at um this page, this um spot over here, and you’ve built up the speed and uh once you start doing the U-turn, just make sure you do the lifesaver and then you start doing the U-turn and make sure your eyes are looking here at this point because if you look at the edge uh of the line at the end of the line over here, your body will naturally adjust accordingly. and like you know without even you realizing it you’ll end up over here and you might fail your test. So make sure you’re looking over at this spot over here. Once you’ve done your U-turn successfully um they’re going to ask you to do like a slow speed control stop in these four corners over here. So you have to come over here. Uh your speed needs to be over 20 miles 20 mph. And then they don’t record the speed, but it’s generally advised that you keep it like over 20 like keep it either 20 or over 20 m. What I did was I took this as practice just so that I can get used to the 30 mph speed uh in this area. So I went to 30 and then as soon as I like passed this point, I started um braking and then did a nice control stop over here. Then after you’ve done that, they ask you to take a U-turn again and park it over here. Now remember, you’ve already done your U-turn. You don’t need to impress the examiner uh by doing it again or again. Just use the space. Um like for example, if you are um over here, use this space over here to make the U-turn. And uh once you’ve done the U-turn, then the next one is uh emergency brake, emergency stop. So for this again, build up your speed. Come over um here. The speed trap is over here. So make sure you uh are doing 30 mi um 32 mi um I think it is because it needs to be 50 km. Even if it’s um a bit less than 50 km uh like it’s 48 km that’s also fine. So that equates to roughly 30 miles. So you need to be doing at least like over 30 just to be on the safe side. So once you’ve passed the speed trap uh you can let go of the accelerator um and then the instructor will raise their hand and you’ll have to demonstrate that you can do an emergency break. Now, make sure you don’t squeeze it too hard because I saw some students who did it who squeezed the brake too hard and then re their rear tire came off the ground and that is an instant fail. Um, then like if your bike doesn’t have ABS, you also risk uh skidding, which is also an instant fail. The So, after you’ve done that, the last one is the hazard avoidance. Now, this was the one where I just kept watching videos on repeat of how people were doing it. And uh this is the exercise where I failed my first test because my speed wasn’t 50 km. It was lower than 48 km. Um the first time I did it, it was around 44 km. The second time I did it, it was 45. So, not much of a difference. So, I’ll explain why the second time I wasn’t able to do it. But the first time it was a windy day and I had my visor up. So, as soon as I like came here and I took this turn and then as soon as I came here and started accelerating, the wind was like way too strong and obviously naturally I panicked. So, I started slowing down around this area and then I did the maneuver correctly. I didn’t hit any cones but my speed wasn’t enough. The second time what happened was I came to this point over here and then I overcompensated. What that means is I accelerated a bit too hard. So that’s where I like this point here. I realized my speed’s like way over um the 40 sorry way over 50 km or 32 miles. So I let go of the accelerator around this point over here. What happened was the engine breaking the engine braking is quite strong. So when I passed the speed trap, my speed was again 45. I did the hazard avoidance correctly the second time. I didn’t hit the cone. I was fairly confident that yeah, this time I’ve done it. But after I the the examiner let me out and uh they gave me the bad news that unfortunately I haven’t passed my test. I was devastated and I had to wait two and a half weeks when I could get uh another chance at doing this. Uh normally you have to wait three days but based on your instructor availability that’s the reason I had to wait 2 and 1/2 weeks. So the second time I did it um I noticed one thing that I did incorrectly which takes me back to my first point. Do everything exactly the same as you did during practice. So, I noticed that during practice, I wasn’t letting go of the accelerator. So, I would reach the 32 miles speed limit in like this region and then I’d keep the acceleration steady. I’d do the avoidance and then I would start breaking after the swerve. So, that’s something that I started doing on the test day. Call it nerves, call it um I don’t know, whatever. But that’s the mistake I was making. So, one of the YouTube videos that I watched, uh, one of the instructors said that when you’re coming around this bend, try and keep the speed between 18 to 20 because if you let go of the accelerator completely, you end up over here quite close to these cones and then you start accelerating from here. So, the distance from here to here is not great. So, in this like very short distance, you have to literally more than double your speed if you’re doing 15. So if you’re doing 15 and you have to reach 32, that’s like more than double. So that would come to you as a shock and you might panic. So if you keep your speed between 18 to 20 around here and then from this point you start accelerating, you’ll have like you know nice um slow acceler uh sorry I shouldn’t be saying slow. Uh in simple words you’ll just have like nice acceleration and it won’t be like a shock to you. So, and depending on how you did it during your practice, if you did it, if you were letting go of the accelerator here, do it exactly like that. If you were keeping the acceleration steady until after the swve, then do exactly that. And uh yeah, just these are the tips I thought might help anyone else who’s looking to do their mod one. I hope you found this video useful. Thank you for watching.

It's the easiest test you will do. Nothing changes except the weather.
Appreciate the tips mate mod 1 tomorrow. Like you the hazard avoidance is my only concern, did you focus on the second blue cone or the gap in the middle when making your swerve ?
Passed 1st time September 11th, 2 minors ( technically 1 ) 1st minor was shoulder checks before SLALOM ( I did them, but i did them when the examinor was walking away, so when he turned round was right as i kicked it into first gear and set off lol ) and stopping distance on emergency stop was a little too far but it was passable. So 1 minor technically aha, Im well happy with my self.
