  1. I personally would toss it at that point unless it’s something really special. 26 inch rims are basically free if you can find a junk bike.

that rim gone, and the braking isn´t the issue with worn rims. It’s the tire pressure, and the force being applied to while cornering. the Rim snaps suddenly, and the now free tire blocks the brake. Not sure if your face is worth saving a few bucks. I completely new wheel is usually under 100€ – even with high quality hubs and rims: [https://www.bike-components.de/de/bc-basic/Mountain-XT-Disc-Center-Lock-26-Laufrad-p46651/?v=4549-schwarz](https://www.bike-components.de/de/bc-basic/Mountain-XT-Disc-Center-Lock-26-Laufrad-p46651/?v=4549-schwarz) (bad example, because no rim brake, but you get the idea..) Finding a good used one in 26″ is going to be a challenge, because most will have this issue – I´d personally get a new rim, and respoke it, but that comes with it’s own challenges. Not sure how technically good you are.

    Keep riding.

Unless you are re-building the wheel anyway, then I’d rather safe myself the trouble and use a new rim.

  4. It’s a state of mind “thing”. Don’t think bloody hell I don’t really want to replace this. Think bloody hell imagine the sheer amount of braking required to wear the rim like this. Think about how many rubber brake pads were worn out, on how many hills. This bike has some really great stories and someone has maintained it and looked after it all these years. I am going to give it a bit of a birthday because someone has got their moneys worth 100 times over.
