  1. 1x conversion and dropper post will ad a lot….

It’s pretty dated (10ish years if I were to guess) but assuming it’s in mechanical good condition, it will be fine…that’s a big if though.

  2. Is it a little dated? Probably. Will it work for a ton of terrain in CA? Absolutely. I grew up in NorCal and still live here. I grew up riding a rigid 26er with canti brakes. My first suspension fork was a really big deal. Your kid will be just fine mashing that thing.

Thank you that helps a lot. I assumed it was on the older side, seeing as it was free. Son has 1k saved up and wants to buy a better bike used. Do you guys think that’s realistic? I know absolutely nothing about mountain bikes so for all I know he could be right. Thanks again

Tire choice is curious (the crossmark front is generally a rear one, and the arsent rear is generally a front one). Making it 1x and dropper post would be a good move. Imho, for 1k second hand it’d not really be a better ride. This was quite a read 10 years ago, and I think quite useable for some years. I’m 42 years old and looked at the kashima suspensions like “oh man, cool stuff”!

  5. Convert to 1x drivetrain and get him a dropper. Dropper would be first for me though.
