After twenty years of marriage, my wife suddenly took her bike out of storage.

It is a Trek Singletrack 920. STX mechs front and rear with STX hubs and cranks too.

It even has tan wall tires when they were popular the first time. I inflated the tires, did not see any dry rot, please check my work. I’d hate to have her tires undergo an unscheduled disassembly while riding.

There is a little surface rust on the stem. And I noticed how remarkably narrow the bars are.

If I can get her to ride it a few times, I’ll see about upgrading her contact points, wider bars and, polling the community here, should I upgrade her cantilever brakes to V brakes? Any improvement?

Bikesmith is the best I’ve found for tires and tubes. Nothing fancy but quality and cheap

FFS, no vee brakes. See [park tools detailed vids on setting cantilevers](https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=park+tool+cantilever+brakes)
Handlebars–see the wider but not too wide [origin8 riser](https://origin8.bike/products/urban-pro-riser-4845?variant=46335320883355). You have a STEEL made in the USA frame. I believe you can go up to a 2.4 wide tire on those orig matrix rims. CLEAN it all up! And wax the frame. Replace cables when you can, but of course, adjust them now. Almost no wear on those grip shifts. [Dont listen to those who are quick to parrot that grip-shifters suck—clean and lubricate!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-6Yw0vY0xk) Take pride! Hey man, turn your bike over.

I just started restoring a Trek 930 (1994, based on colourway) Does anyone know what this mount is for? (Note: under drive-side chainstay) I can’t imagine a brake? And definitely not a kickstand. Anyone any insight?

First few rides? V brakes only if her hands get tired or if she dares for some gnarly terrain.

  6. Old bikes stored well in good shape often need just new rubber—tires and brake pads, and they will feel awesome.
