Hi guys, i've been lurking here for some time. I got a question…
Recently and I mean like a month ago I bought Trek Fuel EX 8. It came with e*thirteen helix cranks, chainring and casette.
Now… after first or secpnd ride I noticed the chain skipping on some gears. I thought it was the cable tension, played with it a bit. No luck, still skipping and it's got issues changing gear to bigger ones.
But today, after literally 117 km i checked the casette and noticed that some of the gears are bloody missing teeth. Broken, ripped off.
What could have caused this after so little use? Is that for a warranty replacement? No chamges were made to the bike after i picked it up from LBS, except mounting fenders and lighe and riding it a bit.

That’s a warranty issue.
My guess is faulty surface treatment on the cassette.
I think the problem is e.13 cassette. I had nothing but issues with those.
I don’t see any damaged teeth or teeth ripped off – just the different tooth shapes to help gears shift – Shimano calls it “Hyperglide” but SRAM has their version too.
Sounds like a consultation with the store from which you purchased the bike.
Maybe the cassette was/is a rip-off? It has to be a wrong material or missing heat treatment – as I am working in production systems – I cannot imagine how this could happen in any professional organized production.
E13 Is nothing but Junk, sadly have been in the same boat, be prepared to have:
– Rows of teeth folding over if you got to a lighter gear under some load
– The chainring is made from hot french cheese, so expect to replace it quickly if your bike sees anything else than bone dry things. Mine was basically a spiky circle after 700km
– The preloadadjuster on the cranks is junk, it gunks up the 1st time it sees some dust and water, let alone if you think about mud in relation to the bike
– The BB (not E13) is complete junk and the bearings will be shot the 2nd time your bike sees water.
Probably you wheel has an XD driver on it (mine had) and believe E13 makes this junk only for XD drivers.
As I got multiple wheelsets and planned to put my GX AXS on it anyway I’ve just put a SRAM GX EAGLE cassette on it (works fine with XT derailleur as well by the way), the Cranks I swapped for Shimano M7120 (SLX Boost) cranks. You can mix match SRAM Eagle & Shimano 12speed stuff quite a bit anyway, 2 things to remember: Keep the chain and Cassette within the same brand and an Shimano chain doesn’t go on an SRAM Eagle chainrings!
Love the Fuel EX Gen 6 for the rest but man what a crap is this E13 stuff.
