I’ve been dealing with some nasty squealing from my rear brakes, so I tore into them this morning to figure out what’s going on. A couple things stood out right away:
-
There are washers being used as shims on the front side of the caliper just to give it the clearance it needs.
-
The rear of the caliper sits really high, and the pad isn’t making full contact with the rotor (you can see this in the 2nd pic).
The bike is a 2023 Marin San Quentin 3, stock with a 180mm rear rotor. Brakes are Magura MT5 with 180mm rotors.
From what I’ve researched, the adapter on there is a 180 PM to 180 PM, which doesn’t make much sense to me. If the frame is already post mount for 180mm, why even use this adapter?
My main question is, what adapter bracket should I actually be using to mount these brakes correctly without washers? How and where can I find this information?

You can get conical washers that allow you to angle the calliper so that it aligns with the rotor.
My first thought is that you have the wrong adapter. You should not need a stack of washers to make it fit. Check that the adapter is not backwards…
Second the Chinese character on the adapter makes me think it’s some kind of Aliexpress add on. So spend the money for a genuine Magura spacer.
You need to flip that adapter around the other way and get rid of the washers.
Use a proper Magura mount and the mount in the picture is the wrong way, you may also may have to face your mounting area
On the disk it says what size it is ! And the get the adaptor to fit by the same maker of the brakes as hope like hope adapter
