I was 95 miles into my first century last weekend and had something happen that none of my bike friends can explain. As I mention in the video I was going straight, hadn’t shifted in a while, and was taking it fairly easy on the home stretch.

I’m assuming the piece I had to unscrew to limp home is a limiter to keep the cage from rotating too far, so I’m at a loss as to how that became jammed in the void behind the lock.

Please help me understand what went wrong

Not many things can cause it to pull forward like that. One is front chain suck where the chain gets stuck on the front chainrings and pulls around until something gives
