Any recommendations for tires? These are Schwalbe Fat Franks 26×2.35 and I don’t find them confidence inspiring… they roll pretty fast but they make squirrely noises when cornering and the ride quality isn’t that good considering their ridiculous size.
I ride 95% pavement, but rough NYC pothole-riddled pavement. I searched the reddit and mostly found people who ride 50/50 pavement and gravel/hardpack dirt etc. Also a lot of tires from even just a few years ago are sold out or NLA…
I have been curious about the whole 80s steel mtb city-tourer conversion trend for a while, and finally decided to sell my Cinelli fixie and try dailying one of these for a while. Loving it so far!

I’ve heard great things about the Maxxis hookworms
I’ve had fat franks before and thought they were a really nice capable if slightly boring looking tyre. If you’ve got squeaking when your corner maybe the 2.35s are too wide for your frame? check there’s enough clearance at the fork, chain stays and seat stays if you haven’t already.
Really nice frame though and that’s a sick build. I’d be well chuffed to daily that.
Oh and maxxis DTH and schwalbe billy bonkers get named a lot as good city tyre options around here.
For something tougher the schwalbe smart sam plus are super bombproof
I ran maxxis holy rollers. Not the fastest but like not bad once broken in. People usually go maxis dth or sxhwalbe billy bonkers in this thread.
Maybe try less air pressure. I have similar tires that were when ridden at a higher psi, made for a rough ride. But as they softened up at a lower psi, the ride was much better/comfier
Kicker Control T5 are pretty decent if you want to stay on brand.
I got a set of Serfas Drifters on a bike I got cheap for parts.
Honestly, for rough pavement riding I think they would be perfect. Pretty durable and rolls well enough for me. Might be worth checking out. I think they’re pretty cheap too.
I’ve been riding them just to wear them out before “upgrading,” but they’ve lasted a while. Enough so that I’m considering grabbing another set now.
If you are okay with slicks (which seems to be your use case), conti contact urban roll very nicely.
