I've been watching a lot of YouTube videos about bike packing and someone at work just got done. Doing a really bike packing trip through Nova Scotia.
This is the only bike I have and I usually ride it 5 to 10 mi on a Saturday. Today I pushed it to 50 on the sunrise trail (north end of East Coast Greenway and aox of loose/hard pack gravel). My bag weighed about 6 lb without the 3L bladder filled. I have a long family tradition of doing everything the hard way. Lol
I got a funny look from the husband and wife that had the proper setup for long distance ride. Lol they also were going about twice my speed.
It was humbling for sure.i can confidently say I didn't have another 25mi in me today. Makes we wonder if I'd be wasting money buying a bike and getting setup for some overnights.

So you normally ride 5 miles a week, decided to 10x that and you surprised it was hard!? Don’t worry so much about the gear, get your fitness up a little more, then start thinking about what kind of bike you want/need.
That’s quite a ride though!
Seems fine to me! If you’re going slow and don’t conform to what some of the Lycra loving folks that pretend they’re training for the Tour de France they’ll always look at you funny.
I was on a ride last week that some jerkoffs going 20-25mph blew past me as I was wobbling with my water bottle, screaming ”ON YOUR LEFT” as loud as they could. It’s a mixed use trail…calm down. People like that can think I’m a Fred all they want. I’m having fun!
