Found an abandoned bike and I'm derusting and greasing everything… just for fun.
I'd like to disassemble this pedal completely, but I'm a bit stuck as to how. The end cap looks ornamental / doesn't actually come off, and the metal tabs holding the sides to the face plate (at the spindle end) seem very hard to bend open.
Has anyone out there dealt with something like this before?

Yeah. YMMV, but a thin bladed flat screwdriver ought to work to knock or lever out that end cap.
